Why buy Pumpkin Pie Spice when you can make it at home in just seconds. Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice is more cost effective than buying it in that teeny, tiny jar at the store and you probably have all the ingredients already in your pantry.

Pumpkin Pie Spice

Pumpkin pie is my favorite of all the pies in the world and I love making a homemade pie every chance I get. They’re pretty simple but you need to make sure you have the highest quality ingredients for the best possible outcome.

This homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice recipe is what gives your pumpkin pie it’s signature warm, fall flavor. Plus, if you make enough spice (which this recipe certainly does) you can use it in everything like you’re own Pumpkin Spice Latte….and save $5 in the process. See, I’m all about making the world a better place one spice at a time.

What is Pumpkin Pie Spice

So, when I started researching what actually goes into Pumpkin Pie Spice I saw that everyone had their own opinion. Some use four ingredients…some use so many more. A few use mace….several did not. I love to use mace because I found that mace added a bit of a warmer taste…which is perfect for fall. If you don’t have mace, you can definitely skip it and still have the signature pumpkin spice flavor.

And since it’s originally part of nutmeg…it made sense to add it. You can whip this up in a matter of seconds and add a bit to your morning coffee. Whip it into a smoothie or bake it into some muffins.

I always use it in this Pumpkin Bread Pudding and this Pumpkin Baked Oatmeal with fabulous results! The possibilities are absolutely endless.

Ingredients in Pumpkin Pie Spice

You only need 6 ingredients to make the perfect Pumpkin Spice blend and I’m willing to bet you have most of them in your pantry right now.

Here’s what you need:

  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Ground Ginger
  • Ground Allspice
  • Ground Cloves
  • Ground Mace
  • Ground Nutmeg

The fresher your spices, the better your pumpkin spice will be. Always be sure to check the expiration date on your spices before mixing this up.

All you have to do is whisk all your ingredients in a bowl, transfer to an airtight container and then start baking up your favorite pumpkin treats!

Recipes Using Pumpkin Spice

Aside from the few recipes I mention above, we also love to use it in these Mini Pumpkin Cheesecakes and these easy Caramel Apples! Of course, there’s always our favorite Pumpkin Pie….because that’s how this all started anyway.
