Happy Hump Day! I have a crazy busy week and am so glad it’s almost over. I’m prepping for a news segment tomorrow where we’ll talk about Halloween pre-gaming….something I like to host each year before we go out trick or treating. We’ll talk about that more later…AND I have to get new tires on Friday but really, I want to go to lunch with my friend Allie and do a little shopping. That’s way more fun than tires. Don’t ya think? AND I’ve been trying to get caught up on the new show This is Us. Have you seen it? I have, three times already, caught the first 20 minutes of the first episode and then my plans are foiled by a barking dog that sees creepy clowns….a five year old boy who’s afraid of going to bed suddenly….a 21 year old daughter who’s getting used to the working world. Someday…I’ll be able to turn on a show and watch it start to finish without forgetting I was watching it in the first place due to interruption. Or cooking something low and slow without interruption….like this Slow Cooker Pear Butter.
It doesn’t matter if you’re interrupted when you’re making this Slow Cooker Pear Butter because it’s about 5 minutes of hands on time. That’s it. Peel, slice, core…toss into the pot. Sprinkle with some cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. Lid it up, turn on high and go binge watch your favorite show…if you dare. I used to love to get this started before I left for work in the morning because the aroma you’re greeted with when you get home is completely intoxicating. It smells like fall moved into your house while you were slaving away in a cubicle….better than any Yankee candle, if you ask me.
This super easy Slow Cooker Pear Butter is great spread on your morning toast with a cup of coffee. Or slathered on your pancakes, or spread on a crusty sourdough grilled cheese sandwich. It’s also a wonderful addition to your cheese platter at holiday gatherings…or pack it in a fancy jar, tie with some twine and gift it to your favorite hostess with a loaf of homemade bread. You can even sub out the Apple Butter in this easy bar recipe or these pulled pork sliders with stellar results. It’s your call.
Slow Cooker Pear Butter
- 5 pounds pears, peeled, sliced and cored
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Place all ingredients in the bottom of a slow cooker or crock pot and stir to combine. Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6-8 hours.
- Transfer the pear mixture to a blender and puree until smooth.
- Transfer the pear butter to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
