We are counting down the sleeps in my house until Memorial Day weekend….the unofficial start of summer. I’m so excited I’m actually a little giddy. We’ll be heading to the shore in just a few days and have been watching the seesawing weather report while biting our nails in anticipation. Sun/rain/sun/rain/sun/rain…..I guess it’s too early to tell because the weather guessers just keep bouncing back and forth between the two. I don’t care….it’s been way too long since I’ve dipped my toes in the ocean and buried my feet in the sand. I’m going rain or shine and I’m making a big batch of this Classic Lemonade Recipe with me to kick off the season.
Summers at the shore are one of my favorite things in the world….the salty air, ice cream on the beach, the greasy pizza….it’s all filled with some sort of memory. Back to my Classic Lemonade Recipe…..from scratch….lemonade is a must have during the summer months whether you’re at the beach or in the city. It’s tart, sweet and refreshing. It’s sunshine in a glass and it’s so incredibly simple to make. Fresh squeezed lemon juice is diluted with water and stirred with simple syrup, then poured over ice and sipped through a delightful paper straw while listening to the crickets chirp in the distance. It’s something I always have in the fridge and it’s even more delish mixed with a little libation like vodka or gin.
This Classic Lemonade Recipe is the perfect party staple, too! Add it as a mixer for a DIY bar to round out your cocktail selection (I always serve these Strawberry Mojitos and Blueberry Juleps, too!) Served with some fun summer dishes like my favorite Classic Lobster Rolls or a big bowl of Banana Pudding, your guests will never want to leave.
Classic Lemonade Recipe
- 3 cups fresh lemon juice
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup simple syrup
In a large pitcher, combine the lemon juice, water and simple syrup.
Stir in ice and lemon slices, if desired. Serve garnished with lemon slices, if desired.
You can adjust the lemonade to your personal preference. Want a less intense lemon flavor? Add a bit more water, to taste. Want it a bit sweeter? Add more simple syrup! So easy!
