Looking for a “manly” brunch cocktail? This Manmosa recipe is just the thing you need to make your brunch a little more burly. Orange juice, vodka, beer and champagne are blended together for a fun, fresh take on the classic mimosa. Totally dad-ified!
Father’s Day is right around the corner and what better way to celebrate than with a big brunch! Brunch is my favorite meal of all time. It’s great for the indecisive….if you can’t decide between breakfast and lunch you can always enjoy a little of both. Or some mashup of breakfast and lunch….hence, brunch. It’s even better if you get to go to a brunch buffet because then you can even throw in a bit of dinner, too. AND for some reason, it’s totally acceptable to imbibe at 10 am…..and on for the remainder of the day.
There’s a restaurant in Cape May, NJ called The Mad Batter. They have the BEST brunch menu, in my opinion, on the entire eastern seaboard. Now, I haven’t been to all the coastal restaurants on the east coast but that’s because we always just go here. The food is amazing and if you can snag a seat on the front porch, the coastal breezes combined with the salty, fragrant aroma of your corned beef hash is enough to make you slightly euphoric. Toss in some brunch-y beverages and you’re in total foodie heaven. This is the place that inspired me to make the Manmosa recipe.
The Manmosa recipe is a combination of orange juice, orange vodka, beer and champagne….according to their menu. Since I’m not a big fan of flavored vodka, except in this slushy, I nixed the orange vodka and subbed in regular vodka. It definitely gave it a cleaner, less artificial flavor…..and then I added a Summer Shandy in place of regular beer. I demo’ed the recipe on Fox 29 Good Day Philadelphia with Jenn Frederick and we both LOVED it! So, we let the camera man try it out so we could get a man’s point of view….his verdict was it wasn’t manly enough. Shocking, considering it was made by a woman….who wears pink and sparkles on the daily. I disagree with him (Ha!) but if you want it to have more of a hoppy, hearty, put some hair on your chest flavor….use a darker ale or even a stout! I’ve tried both and, while I love the light fruity flavor of the shandy, the darker, deeper flavor of a heartier beer is definitely fabulous, as well.
My husband is a light beer drinker so this Manmosa recipe is totally his thing. (He may wear pink and sparkles on the daily, as well.) Which is good for me because I’m really into this one! If you’re looking for something more traditional and maybe even girly because you’re hosting a baby or bridal shower, this Bloody Margarita or Palmetto Bloody Mary are fantastic, as well. The Manmosa Recipe
- 1 12-ounce bottle light beer
- 1 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
- 4 ounces vodka
- 12 ounces champagne
- orange slices for garnish, if desired
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Add the vodka and orange juice, shake to combine.
- Pour the mixture into a pitcher. Stir in the beer and champagne.
- Divide the manmosa between four pilsner or beer glasses.
- Garnish with oranges and serve immediately.
Recipe can be doubled, as needed.
