Cream Cheese Cutouts with Royal Icing

My mom used to make sugar cookie cutouts when I was small.  She let me help and I remember it being a pretty simple process.  Something I thought I would always do with my kids. I think Katie and I made cutouts one time.  That was it.  And now she's just too busy or just not interested in helping.  She will resurface when it's time to eat  but nowhere to be found when I'm making them. Landon....this is better as a nap time project for me right now.  I can't even imagine what would happen if … [Read more...]

White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha Biscotti

For most of my life, I wasn't a coffee drinker.  It just tasted bitter and nasty....even when I loaded it up with milk and sugar.  I would pretend to like it and dump 3/4's of my cup down the drain.  Without fail. Then I discovered biscotti and the wonderful things that coffee does to it when you dip it.  I could then, easily, drink like half a cup of coffee.  And I kinda enjoyed it.  Sorta...not. Then I became a coffee drinker because I needed the caffeine high after I had Landon and … [Read more...]

Cinnamon-Sugar Palmiers

Cinnamon-sugar toast should be a mandatory breakfast treat in every house.  I started my day with a piece of toasted white bread slathered with butter (salted, of course) and showered in a thick layer of cinnamon -sugar.....made by dumping several spoonfuls of sugar and 1/2 the amount of cinnamon in the middle of a paper towel.  I then would shift it around inside the paper towel until it looked "ready".  This is how I made breakfast most of my mornings. And it was heaven. It was also a good … [Read more...]

White Chocolate Toasted Pecan Cookies

Sometimes a little change up to your regular routine is a good thing.  I'm a creature of habit....I don't embrace change as much as I probably should.  One wrinkle in my day and I can get all bunched up like a load of laundry left in the dryer too long. I'm not like a freak about it though....I do get out.  I'm not a hermit if that's what you're thinking.  I go to the store, the mall, the gas station....I travel occasionally.  I just like to know that in the end I have some consistency in my … [Read more...]

Mocha Brownie and Mint M&M Cookies

Day 5 of the Twelve Days of Cookies and a little philanthropy! This year, The Suburban Soapbox was selected to participate in The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap!  The cookie swap is organized by Lindsay of the blog Love and Olive Oil and Julie from The Little Kitchen.  I've been a fan of both of their sites so I was super excited to be able to join the other bloggers in the largest cookie swap I've ever been a part of. And most importantly, this amazing project raised $13,778.40 for Cookies … [Read more...]

Chocolate Covered Pretzel Toffee

OVERDUE!  That's what this post is.  We will chalk this lateness up to technical issues.....distraction hangover from Mexico...and the Stitch Fix box that arrived yesterday afternoon. In case you were wondering, I'm still posting on an iPad for the most part.  It's not going well.  I'm having a hard time diving into the holiday spirit but the snow falling behind me right now is helping....a little.  It is beautiful but given we hardly ever see a white Christmas it's just not screaming Ho Ho … [Read more...]

Cranberry Cream Cheese Streusel Bars

On the third day of's hard to believe I had any leftover cranberry sauce.  I love it, it's my favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner.  I even like the canned stuff....which would work well here too.  But since I know EVERYONE ran right out and bought fresh cranberries to make my Easy Cranberry Sauce recipe I thought I would morph it into something even more delicious.  Hard to believe.  Right? If you didn't make my Cranberry Sauce you can easily (and pretty quickly) whip up a … [Read more...]

The Best Chocolate-Chocolate Chunk Cookies….Ever

I ate half the batter.  I'm not ashamed.  I don't even care about the raw egg issue because it was that incredible. (And the fact that I always use pasteurized eggs.)  If this wasn't supposed to be the second day of the Twelve Days of Cookies I would just post this as a chocoholic dip or body paint or something.  No need to bake it, just dig in with a spoon.  But if you do decide to take that extra step and turn the "dip" into an actual cookie you will be rewarded with the best … [Read more...]

Chocolate Chip Cookie Mocha Brownie Bites

For the first time in my family and I went on vacation over Thanksgiving.  We went to Mexico and I didn't see any turkeys in I'm not sure the "turkey" I had on Thanksgiving day was actually turkey but possibly one of the 3700 chickens I saw running around there.  It was weird and tropical and made me feel like it's extra hard to get in the holiday spirit.  The resort did start decorating for the holidays the day after Thanksgiving but the warm weather....and sporting a … [Read more...]
