Roasted Cauliflower and Shallot Soup

Roasted Cauliflower and Shallot Soup

I grew a cauliflower.  This doesn't actually sound that exciting but to me this was a huge accomplishment.  I always wanted a vegetable garden so I thought I would test out a few things before going all out and creating a small plantation.  And since we moved into our house in late June I only had access to a few types of plants....brussels sprouts and cauliflower.  I planted one of each and to my surprise...both of them were somewhat successful!  My brussels sprouts are puny and kind of a waste … [Read more...]

I'm a magazine junkie.  Let me be more specific...I'm a cooking magazine junkie.  I hoard them.  My husband has been known to call me "piles" because I used to have 6-7 piles of magazines placed strategically (hidden) around the house.  I couldn't go to the store without picking up a new magazine and I couldn't ever throw them away.  Ever.  I thought I might want to reference them later.  I don't....ever.  Well, I used to but with the internet I don't need to sift through piles and pages when I … [Read more...]

Corn, White Cheddar and Basil Fritters

Corn, White Cheddar and Basil Fritters

With a new house comes new neighbors.  I was so nervous about meeting all the neighbors because....what if they don't like me.  What if....they find me incredibly annoying OR they think I'm a little insane?  What if they realize that I AM a little nuts?  Will they still like me?  It's like high school all over again except we're not outside spraying whipped cream and glitter all over each others cars.  (I'll share that story another day.) Well, our neighbors are pretty awesome.  Really.  And … [Read more...]

Blueberry White Chocolate Chip Frozen Yogurt

Blueberry White Chocolate Chip Frozen Yogurt

We are in the midst of a heat wave....well, technically, it was over yesterday but I still can't seem to cool off.  We even bought a pool, it was blown up last week.  Laugh if you must but it was incredibly refreshing the past several days when it was still about 90 degrees at 8:00 in the evening. It's amazing the lengths people will go to keep cool in the summer.  And those people who say it's not the heat...it's the humidity...it IS the heat, the humidity just sucks too! I decided to … [Read more...]

Today was a day filled with packing, sitting and staring at empty boxes while feeling overwhelmed, more packing, a Caillou marathon, folding the Mt. Everest of laundry, more packing, funny cats on YouTube and, finally, this post.  With the move less than two weeks away, I'm starting to realize I need to eat all the food we have left.  It doesn't help that I went grocery shopping this past weekend.  I want to waste as little as possible....I may gain several pounds during this feat. At least I … [Read more...]

Roasted Strawberry Pie Parfait

Roasted Strawberry Pie Parfait

I love strawberry pie.  Love it....like I could eat the entire thing myself.  I have a great recipe for it but I rarely make it because....I'll eat the entire thing myself.  I try to only make it when I know we're entertaining, this way I can't eat the whole thing...I'm forced to share.  This solves the whole pie consumption problem because I won't want to look like a glutton and eat half the pie with witnesses. That's when the idea for this parfait popped up.  And Chobani.  They had a hand … [Read more...]

Cream of Mushroom Soup (minus the cream)

Cream of Mushroom Soup

The Devil Wears Prada is one of my favorite movies. There's a quote in the movie that I always think of when I see "chowder" or "cream" of anything...."Corn chowder. That's an interesting choice. You do know that cellulite is one of the main ingredients in corn chowder." That line has ruined most cream soups for me. I rarely order creamy soups anymore because I don't want to eat cellulite.  That's just gross. It's already on my body against my will so I'd rather not add to it willingly. It … [Read more...]
