Welcome to the first ever....Soapbox Shout-Outs!  A new, weekly series I'm launching to give you the news on the things I'm loving and stumbled on over the past week.  I'll include links to products, recipes, articles, photos....basically, anything and everything that made me smile...swoon...gasp or hungry in the past several days.  Wasn't this the point of The Suburban Soapbox in the first place?  Before it became the place where hungry people gathered?  I think so.  So, here I am....on my … [Read more...]

I can't believe the year is almost over!  And what a great year it's been.  I love looking back on the past several months and remembering all the events that occurred.  It really hits home how quickly time goes by and how many things we only think about for a fleeting moment.  So many things to be thankful for and so many people to thank!  Especially all you, my amazing internet friends.  Thank you for making this a stellar year for The Suburban Soapbox! I pulled together a collection of … [Read more...]

Slow Cooker Thai Red Curry Beef

Slow Cooker Thai Red Curry Beef

Requests for slow cooker recipes are starting to pour in.  I have a ton....I shared one.  And with the holiday rush just around the corner I agree that we should be using the slow cooker more than ever.  It 's nice to come home from work (or holiday shopping with all the crazy people) to a nice hot meal that's not delivered from the nearest pizza joint. I love my slow cooker, it's ancient....like a whole 20 years old.  It's reliable if the ingredients are prepped in the right way and if I'm … [Read more...]

Sausage and Apple Stuffing

Sausage and Apple Stuffing

Thanksgiving week continues.....have I mentioned I'm bad at math?  If I went and counted the posts I had for Thanksgiving Week before proclaiming said "Thanksgiving Week",  I would have noticed it exceeded the number of days in a normal week.  So, this is Thanksgiving Week, the sequel.  And this week is the best because it contains sausage....and stuffing.  And sausage in stuffing!  Which is even better. My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal is the stuffing....because I love bread....and … [Read more...]

Tuesday’s Tip: Less Mess Meatloaf (and Meatballs too)

When making meatloaf or meatballs (or burgers for that matter), things can quickly get sticky. I'm not a huge fan of wearing a meat glove so to keep it from sticking to my hands I wet them in cold water before shaping loaves, balls and patties. The moisture creates a barrier between your skin and the meat making things less messy. Try this the next time you make my Turkey Meatloaf! … [Read more...]

Lavender Lemonade Bars

Lavender Lemonade Bars

If you follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, you are aware that I just moved and updated my kitchen.  I was unable to bake anything for quite sometime and was slacking on the Soapbox posts a little for that reason.  (I also threw in a beach vacation WHICH I did make a few things and will be sharing those recipes very soon!) Once I had a working oven in place I decided to christen it with something summery.  I recently tried, for the first time, Lavender Lemonade.  It was dreamy.  I … [Read more...]

Cream of Mushroom Soup (minus the cream)

Cream of Mushroom Soup

The Devil Wears Prada is one of my favorite movies. There's a quote in the movie that I always think of when I see "chowder" or "cream" of anything...."Corn chowder. That's an interesting choice. You do know that cellulite is one of the main ingredients in corn chowder." That line has ruined most cream soups for me. I rarely order creamy soups anymore because I don't want to eat cellulite.  That's just gross. It's already on my body against my will so I'd rather not add to it willingly. It … [Read more...]

It Only Took 40 Years to Find the BEST Birthday Cake

Milk Bar Birthday Cake 40th

If the title didn't clue you in already....I just turned 40. Last Friday, to be exact. I had planned to post a "Happy Birthday to ME!" post but two things happened: 1) My husband took me and the family to New York to celebrate. (I LOVE New York!) 2) I was in denial....even though I denied being in denial or having any issues with turning 40. I am fine with 40...it's just a number, right? What I had a problem with was actually SAYING I was 40. It's crazy. I was just 18 a minute ago. I don't … [Read more...]

Chocolate Chia Seed Pudding

Chia Seed Pudding

I've been reading a lot about chia seeds lately, you know, those black, tiny seeds used to grow hair on Obama's head, fur on Garfield's body and other crazy terra cotta creations known as Chia Pets. Apparently, they are little powerhouses that should be eaten and not necessarily used to grow tchotkes for around the house. No matter how fun that can be. Chia seeds are high in protein, calcium, fiber, antioxidants and Omega-3 fatty acids. They are extremely easy to add to your diet...you can … [Read more...]
