A fun kid-friendly drink that's easy to make and perfect for Shark Week!

Sunday was the start of my son’s favorite week of the year…..Shark Week! If you don’t know what Shark Week is, it’s kind of a cult favorite on Discovery Channel. We’ve been watching it for a few years not, my son is obsessed with all types of wildlife but mainly those that shed blood. Having raised a girl first, this is a bit weird and, honestly, a little frightening. I’ve been searching “Sharks jumping out of water”, “Shark Attacks”, “Daddy Sharks”, “Sharks Feeding”, etc. on YouTube for years now. I’m done. This week all I need to do it turn on Discovery Channel and they’ll have it covered for me 24/7 for the whole week. Plus, we all learn something from it. And we got to make this cool Shark Attack Cocktail to kick off the week in our very first LIVE Facebook video!

The Shark Attack Cocktail is a virgin drink that was inspired by one my little guy had when we visited The Crab House in New Jersey at the beginning of the summer. Their version was, basically, lemon-lime soda in a clear cup with a plastic shark stuck inside. The shark was filled with grenadine….blood to the little guy….and he was so thrilled to dump it into the drink. Fun, thrilling and totally fit for summer. He loved it! And then bounced off the walls for the remainder of the day. Which was cool because the restaurant is bay front, totally kid-friendly and has a totally cool vibe that makes you never want to leave. If you’re ever in the area, you should definitely check it out.

For our version of the Shark Attack Cocktail, we added a bit of blue food coloring just to make it a bit more fun. We also tossed in a few swedish fish and a “life preserver”…which totally didn’t preserve life because the shark is filled with blood. If you want to make this an adult cocktail feel free to add your favorite booze of choice….I’m a vodka girl myself.

Your kids will go nuts over this Shark Week favorite and the best part is, they can make it almost by themselves. And if you feel the drink is too sweet for yourself you’ll love this fruity mint julep or stick with an old standby but coastal inspired bloody mary.
