Frozen Smoothie Packs

Hooray, it’s Friday! This week was soooo weird, I couldn’t keep track of the days of the week probably because Monday was a holiday….but I still had to work but there wasn’t any school so it was a crazy day altogether. I know, I’m rambling but seriously…doesn’t everyone feel a bit loopy when school just gets started?

So, I’ve been trying to get things organized by stocking the freezer with easy breakfast items like these Freezer Breakfast Sandwiches and my favorite breakfast burritos because we can’t be eating cereal every single day. We also love smoothies and that’s why I started throwing together these DIY Smoothie Freezer Packs so everyone can get a little bit of exactly what they want….every single day.

How To Make It

Making your own freezer smoothie pack is sooooo easy to do with just a few simple steps. It’s a great way to make your smoothies in advance for the entire week or month!

  1. Spoon plain low fat yogurt into the wells of an ice cube tray and freeze.
  2. Build your own smoothie pack recipe by adding frozen fruit, fresh greens, frozen avocado and a few yogurt cubes to a zip top bag. Press out the air and zip it close.
  3. Freezer your smoothie pack until ready to use.
  4. To make your smoothie, blend well with 1 cup water, milk, almond milk, or coconut milk until smooth.

Can you freeze avocado for smoothies?

YES, you can freeze avocado for smoothies by cutting the avocado into large pieces and tossing with a bit of lemon or lime juice. I use about 1 tablespoon lemon juice for each avocado and then freeze on a baking sheet in a single layer. Once frozen you can transfer to a zip top bag or your smoothie freezer packs.

Another option is to buy frozen avocado, it’s crazy convenient and priced well. I found it my grocer’s freezer section and because it’s been doused in citric acid it’s perfect for guacamole!

These Freezer Smoothie kits are the BEST way to enjoy any make ahead smoothie recipes like the three I’m sharing today. I have a bunch of my favorite smoothie recipes like this ever popular Strawberry Cheesecake Smoothie….I mean, seriously, it’s like the best thing ever.

For the Frozen Smoothie Packs I made a Pitaya Mango Smoothie which was so refreshing and fruity, I blended this one with a bit of coconut milk to give it a totally tropical flavor.

And if you don’t know what Pitaya is, it’s also known as Dragon Fruit and it’s the fruit of a cactus….or so I’ve been told. Pitaya has numerous health benefits and you can find it fresh in the produce section or frozen in packs in your grocer’s freezer section.

I also made a Pina Colada Smoothie pack which is similar to this Pina Colada Smoothie I made a few years ago and totally need to take new pictures of….adding that to the list. This one is simple, pineapple, coconut yogurt, coconut milk and banana. So, simple but soooo so good.

Last, I made a Berry Avocado Smoothie, let me say that avocado in a smoothie is a total game changer. The avocado adds heft and creaminess that other ingredients just can’t do. All three of them are perfect smoothie recipes for weight loss because they fill you up but won’t fill you out.

So, if you’re looking for some healthy smoothie recipes to have on hand in a pinch definitely stock your freezer with these Freezer Smoothie Packs. They save so much time in the morning and you won’t be reaching for a bag of chips by 10 am.
