Grilled Potatoes in Foil

My favorite grilling recipe of all time….Easy Grilled Garlic Potatoes in Foil. I almost feel like this one is a little to easy to share as a recipe but every time I make it for guests they rave about it.

And there are never any leftovers….which is a sure sign that a recipe is one that should be shared. Over and over again. It really couldn’t be simpler to make. I start with a foil “bowl” and fill it with baby Yukon golds. If you can’t find them, then just cut up some potatoes into bite sized pieces…there are really no rules here.

How To Make Grilled Potatoes

  1. Start with a foil “bowl” and fill it with baby Yukon golds. If you can’t find them, then just cut up some potatoes into bite sized pieces…there are really no rules here.
  2. Toss in a handful of fresh garlic cloves, I like to smash them with a knife to release all that goodness locked inside. It seeps out into the olive oil that’s drizzled over top making everything all garlic-y and fabulous. I rough cut some sweet onions and throw them in there too.
  3. Then, toss in a few fresh herbs, salt and pepper….seal it all up and throw it on the grill.

You can easily customize this recipe with your favorite herbs, spices and more. Just add whatever you like and then dig in!

Tips for Making Grilled Potatoes in Foil Packets

  • Using smaller potatoes is so much easier since it keeps chopping to a minimum. New potatoes or fingerling potatoes work well because you can just cut them in half.
  • Don’t have a grill? You can cook your potato packets in the oven at 425 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
  • Don’t skimp on the olive oil. Too little oil will cause your potatoes to stick to the foil and burn.

Serving Suggestions

It’s a great summer side dish because you can get your Garlic Potatoesl going before starting your barbecue chicken or grilled steak.

More Potato Recipes

I have, literally, been making these grilled potatoes for well over 20 years and haven’t changed them up much at all. They’re one of the most requested recipes I make….aside from these mashed potatoes or these Roasted Fingerling Potatoes. And they were definitely the inspiration for these Skillet Smashed Potatoes I made a few years back.

And I even made a Southwest Style Potato Foil Packet for the grill! The only thing I can say now is…..I’m sorry I waited so long to share them with all of you!
