Melt Down Grilled Cheese Review
A friend of mine met me for lunch at a new place called Melt Down. It’s located in Wayne, PA, if you’re familiar with Wayne it took over the old Peace A Pizza building. There’s another location in North Wales. They have tons of grilled cheese sandwiches, two different soups, a signature salad and milk shakes.
Their website states it’s “really, really, ridiculously good grilled cheese” and it is really, really, ridiculously good grilled cheese!!! Believe it!
A word of caution though, if you go during the week at approximately 12-12:30 it will be teaming with toddlers! EVERYWHERE! It looked very much like this and seating was hard to come by.
I’m going to assume this is where all the moms in the area come for their play dates because they don’t want their homes to look like a tornado hit them….which is how Melt Down looked when I walked in. Luckily, within 20 minutes the place cleared out and it was a pleasant place to enjoy the gooey goodness that would be sitting in front of me momentarily.
I ordered the BCT which was melted cheddar, bacon, diced tomatoes and apple mustard on what looked like a sourdough bread. My friend ordered the Baja Melt which was made with Monterey Jack, avocado, shredded chicken, diced tomatoes and crushed tortilla butter. Both came with a spicy pickle spear, a very small amount of chips (Note to Melt Down: Please don’t be stingy with the chips…I LOVE them!)and some kind of dip that we couldn’t figure out if it was for the chips or the sandwich. My friend dipped her sandwich in it and I used it as chip dip…..I’m pretty certain it’s for the chips. I’ll have to ask next time, I was overwhelmed by all the kids I forgot I was allowed to ask questions.
My sandwich was amazing, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. You could taste the tanginess of the apple in the mustard and the flavors just blended perfectly. I savored every bite and contemplated ordering a second. Luckily, I didn’t wear stretchy pants so my waistband reminded me that I did not need two of these sandwiches.
I had a bite of the Baja Melt which was equally delicious! She did not want to try mine. I offered, really….I did!
After some begging, I finally got her to agree to split dessert with me. They only have one dessert on the menu and after trying it…..they only need ONE dessert on the menu. It’s a grilled ice cream sandwich….two slices of grilled pound cake with your choice of vanilla or chocolate ice cream and a raspberry glaze. OH.MY.GOD.
We split it…..I wanted more.
