It Only Took 40 Years to Find the BEST Birthday Cake
If the title didn’t clue you in already….I just turned 40. Last Friday, to be exact. I had planned to post a “Happy Birthday to ME!” post but two things happened:
1) My husband took me and the family to New York to celebrate. (I LOVE New York!)
2) I was in denial….even though I denied being in denial or having any issues with turning 40.
I am fine with 40…it’s just a number, right? What I had a problem with was actually SAYING I was 40. It’s crazy. I was just 18 a minute ago. I don’t feel any older, wiser…yes, more wrinkly…yes. But not older. But it happened and I’m going to have to own up to the fact that I am halfway to 80. A lifetime away from being 80 sounds much better to me, don’t you agree? Especially since I don’t have many memories of, say, being born….or wearing a diaper.
I have learned a lot in my 40 years (see…it’s getting easier so long as I don’t say it out loud.) So many people say “I wish I knew then what I know now” but to be honest…if I knew what I know now when I was in my teens and twenties, I don’t think I would be the same person. I’m comfortable with who I am, I’m grateful for the life that I’ve created and the family I have. I’m incredibly fortunate to be the person I am today. Happy Birthday to me. 🙂
Most importantly….I know what I like. And I love this birthday cake. This is definitely THE BEST BIRTHDAY CAKE EVER!!! I don’t even know why I decided I must have this when we went to New York but it was the best decision I’ve made in a long time. (foodwise, that is.) I knew I wanted to try it and it just worked out that the bakery was a couple blocks from the hotel. I ordered it three days ahead of time and picked it up as soon as we arrived.
The cake is from Momofuku Milk Bar. If you’re not familiar with Milk Bar it’s a culinary carnival of sweets in New York. Headed up by Christina Tosi, they’re most famous for their Compost Cookies and Crack Pie. Neither one have I tried as of yet but I will be packing a cooler for my next trip to NYC.
The Birthday Cake is a must have whether you are celebrating a birthday or not. I noticed a lot of other bloggers making this themselves but it’s a lot of work and I think I would prefer just ordering it straight from the source. The combination of textures is what makes this cake stand out. The buttery frosting and the moist cake paired with the crunchy, buttery morsels of cake batter make you stop and savor each and every bite.
You can order it online and have it shipped anywhere in the US or you can buy the cookbook and make it yourself.
Either way, it’s quite the treat!
