Ingredients
5poundsapplespeeled, cored and diced
1cupgrated apple
3/4cupgranulated sugar
1/4cupbrown sugar
1tablespoonground cinnamon
1/2teaspoonground nutmeg
1teaspoonlemon juice
1cupold fashioned rolled oats
1/2cupflour
1/4cupgranulated sugar
1teaspoonground cinnamon
1/2teaspoonkosher salt
5tablespoonsunsalted butterchilled and cut into cubes
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350˚F.
In a large bowl, toss together apples, grated apple, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice.
Combine thoroughly and pour the mixture into a baking dish coated with cooking spray and spread evenly. In a medium bowl, whisk together oats, flour, sugar, cinnamon and salt. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, work the butter into the oat mixture until coarse crumbs form. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples. Transfer to the oven and bake for 30 minutes until the crust is a golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
Serve hot or at room temperature with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
