Cuban Sandwich Recipe
The Cuban sandwich, also known as a Cubano, is a grilled and pressed sandwich that originated in Florida, featuring layers of roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and yellow mustard on Cuban bread. Its crispy exterior and savory,melted filling make it a beloved classic.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup yellow mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 loaf cuban bread or long hoagie roll
- 1/2 pound Swiss cheese
- 1/2 pound smoked deli ham
- 2 cups shredded cooked pork loin or pulled pork warmed
- 1/2 cup dill pickle slices
- 1/4 cup salted butter
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together the mustard, cayenne and paprika.
- Cut the loaf of bread in half lengthwise and arrange on a flat surface.
- Spread each half on both sides with the mustard.
- Divide the sandwich ingredients evenly on one half of the bread starting with cheese, then ham, pork, pickle slices and then the remaining cheese.
- Place the top half of the bread on the sandwich.
- Cut the sandwich in half.
- Melt the butter in a heavy skillet over medium heat.
- Place the sandwiches in the skillet and press down firmly. Top the sandwich with a second skillet or a foil wrapped brick.
- Toast the sandwiches until golden brown and crispy. Flip the sandwiches over and top with the skillet again or the heavy weight.
- Continue cooking until crispy, golden and the filling is heated through, approximately 4-5 minutes on each side.
- Serve the sandwiches hot with plantain chips or pickles.
