This easy baked onion casserole is a Southern favorite, made with thick-cut sweet onions, buttery richness, and three kinds of cheese. It’s savory, cheesy, and perfect for pairing with grilled meats or barbecue.
Preheat the oven to 350˚F. Coat a 13x9 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
Arrange 1/2 of the onions on the bottom of the casserole dish.
In a small bowl, whisk together the garlic powder, onion powder, italian seasoning, dry mustard, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper. Sprinkle half the seasoning over the onions. Repeat with remaining onions and seasoning.
Arrange the butter on top of the onions and top evenly with Cheddar and mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and dried parsley.
Bake in the preheated oven until onions are tender and cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown around the edges, approximately 35 minutes.
Notes
Onion Tip: Use sweet onions for the best flavor. Vidalia, Walla Walla, or Maui onions work great.
Cheese Swap: Try Gruyère or Monterey Jack if you want a different flavor profile.
Make Ahead: Assemble the dish up to a day in advance, cover, and refrigerate. Bake just before serving.
Serving Suggestion: Serve as a cheesy side dish with grilled steak, pulled pork, or roasted chicken.
