Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and what better way to celebrate than with a homemade gift. I love to send fruit bouquets to my friends and family to celebrate various life events but they, sometimes, seem impersonal because all I had to do was hop online and place an order. So, for this Valentine’s Day I decided to make my own fruit bouquet to give to my favorite Valentine using one of the debi lilly design™ vases I love, available exclusively in the Philadelphia area at my local ACME Markets. I love the wide variety of debi lilly design products available all year long and each time I pass through the floral department I like to grab one of the latest season appropriate and trend forward vases. Right now,  ACME Markets has a ton of fun Valentine themed vases to choose from including the pink polka dot vase I picked up to make an edible fruit bouquet.

You won’t believe how incredibly simple it is to make an edible fruit bouquet from easy to find items in the produce department. And you can totally customize your own fruit bouquet to your own personal taste. If you’re not a fan of melon, substitute with some pineapple wedges….is your Valentine allergic to strawberries? Skip them altogether! That’s one of the best things about making your own gift….you can add whatever you’d like and there are so many other options available in your produce department it will be fun to mix things up each time you make one.

We even like to add in a few Chocolate Covered Strawberries to make our edible arrangement even that much more special.

To make an edible fruit bouquet, start with a wide bottom vase like the debi lilly design mini dot planter I used here. Fill with floral foam wrapped in plastic wrap and then create fruit skewers using your favorite fruits. I made cute flowers from melon and pineapple to dress things up a bit. Fill your floral foam with your fruit skewers and then you’re done! How easy is that? And I bought everything I needed from my local ACME Markets! I buy all my debi lilly design products at my local ACME Markets store, but you can also find them at all of the Albertsons Companies family of stores, including Albertsons, Safeway, Jewel-Osco, Vons, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Shaw’s, Star Market, United Express, United and Carrs/Safeway. Visit ACMEMarkets.com to find a store near you.

While I was picking up the ingredients for my edible fruit bouquet I grabbed a few other debi lilly design products to round out my Valentine’s Day celebration. ACME Markets has a wonderful selection of debi lilly design grab and go bouquets that are so easy to arrange in your new vase! Just snip off the ends and drop them right into the vase. It makes it so easy to bring a fresh burst of springtime into your home in the middle of winter. And they make an excellent centerpiece for your romantic Valentine’s dinner! This year, I’m adding these Chocolate Champagne Truffles and this Oscar Style Filet Mignon to the menu.

The more I save, the more debi lilly design vases I can add to my collection. I can’t wait to see what the next holiday will bring….I’ll be creating another edible fruit bouquet just to celebrate the occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 debi lilly design™ small planter or vase
  • 1 block dry floral foam
  • plastic wrap
  • 14-16 strawberries, stems removed
  • 1 cantaloupe, washed, dried, cut in half and seeds removed
  • 1 honeydew melon, washed, dried, rind removed and cut into quarter moon shapes.
  • 1 pineapple, cut into 1/2 slices
  • 8 Signature Spiced Gumdrops
  • 50 red seedless grapes
  • 50 green seedless grapes
  • Kale leaves
  • 24 8- inch skewers
  • 24 4- inch skewers

Instructions

  • Rinse and dry the inside of the planter and set aside.
  • Wash all the fruit and pat dry with a paper towel. Set aside.
  • Cut the floral foam in half and trim to fit inside planter. Stack the two pieces of floral foam on top of each other and wrap tightly with plastic wrap. Place the foam inside the planter.
  • Thread strawberries onto skewers (a mix of sizes is recommended) and set aside.
  • Using a melon baller, scoop out 1 half of the cantaloupe to form the center of the flower.
  • Cut the remaining half of the cantaloupe into quarter moon wedges and remove the rind.
  • Thread the cantaloupe wedges onto skewers and set aside.
  • Thread the honeydew wedges onto skewers and set aside.
  • Using a flower shaped cookie cutter, cut out the center of each pineapple slice.
  • Thread a gumdrop onto an 8-inch skewer and then top with a pineapple flower. Thread a melon ball half on top of the pineapple to form the flower. Repeat with remaining pineapple. Set aside.
  • Thread grapes, 6 at a time, onto skewers and set aside.
  • Place 2-3 kale leaved on top of the floral foam and secure by sticking two grape skewers into the foam.
  • Starting from the bottom, insert honeydew and cantaloupe around the edge of the vase.
  • Insert strawberries around the melon and then insert pineapple flowers at varying heights throughout the vase.
  • Arrange the remaining fruit skewers among the flowers to fill out the bouquet.
  • If necessary, fill the remaining holes with kale leaves or create more fruit skewers, as needed.
