Sweet spice and apples are a match made in cool weather heaven. This Apple Chai Hot Toddy is more than just a festive drink, it’s a healthy beverage that helps combat the sniffles and soothe a sore throat. A total winter staple here in my house!

We finally have temps that are below 80 degrees and at night, the thermostat dipped to a crisp 49 degrees last night. Summer is definitely over. And I’m ready with my puffy coat, fluffy sweaters and tall boots…..but I’m not ready for the cold and flu season, at all. I already battled some scratchy throat funk a couple weeks ago that seems to be lingering a little longer than I’d like but that’s to be expected, I guess. I’ve been sipping on this Apple Chai Hot Toddy like there’s no tomorrow because it’s the best remedy, in my opinion, for a scratchy, sore throat.

And I made a quick trip to my local ACME Markets store to stock up on all the necessities to help me survive the cold season. With my little guy at school soaking up all those little kiddie germs and bringing them home to me, I have to be ready. School is like one giant petri dish with all kinds of sickies floating around so I like to keep plenty of Signature CareTM products on hand. Signature Care™ products provide the same quality and relief that national name brands do, but at a better value. Signature Care products contain the same active ingredients & are subject to the same manufacturing standards mandated by the FDA as national brands. I like Signature Care Honey Lemon Cough Drops, Signature Care Cold/Flu Daytime Relief Softgels because a girl’s gotta work, and Signature Care Nighttime Cold Medicine because sleep is a MUST when I’m feeling under the weather. I love the savings I get on groceries at ACME Markets and the gas rewards keep me coming back again and again. I drive a ton so it’s always a fun surprise when I see how much I’m saving on gas every month.

This Apple Chai Hot Toddy is the perfect addition to your cold and flu arsenal. It’s so simple to make with O Organics products like their unfiltered apple juice, Chai tea and Almond Milk. A splash of spiced rum just gives it another level of cozy but you can skip it if rum is not your thing. Fun fact though….did you know the original Hot Toddy was created to help prevent scurvy in sailors when they were on long journeys? That was news to me….I just thought it was a fun holiday cocktail to help celebrate the upcoming seasons. So, it seems fitting that we add this one to the menu of cold prevention all winter long. Don’t you agree?

Ingredients

  • 2 cups O Organics Unfiltered Apple juice
  • 5 O Organics Teabags Chai Spice
  • 1/4 cup O Organics Almond Milk
  • 1 tablespoon O Organics light brown sugar
  • 4 ounces spiced dark rum
  • Apple slices and cinnamon sticks for garnish

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine the apple juice and teabags. Bring to a simmer then turn off the heat.
  • Allow the teabags to steep for 10 minutes, then remove.
  • Stir in the almond milk, sugar and rum, stirring until dissolved.
  • Divide the mixture among two mugs.
  • Garnish with apple slices and cinnamon sticks, if desired.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

You can create a "concentrate" in advance by steeping the tea bags in the apple juice and keeping it in the refrigerator. Bring to a simmer, then continue with the remainder of the recipe.
