Lemon Drop Shot
Lemon Drop Shots are famously sweet, tangy, and smooth! You can make this party favorite shot with just a handful of ingredients and only moments of your time. These vodka shots are perfect for spring and summertime soirees of any kind!
Lemon Drop Shot
I feel like we can all remember our first Lemon Drop Shot. When you first start going to bars, most people tend to rely on the safer options that they know they’ll enjoy, like this! A Lemon Drop Shot is perfect for those who want to enjoy a good amount of vodka at once without totally suffering. When I do shots, I definitely need some flavor to help balance out the alcohol, and this shot does just that.
What goes into this lemony shot is simple, but so effective! Inspired by my Lemon Drop Martini, the vodka flavor is balanced perfectly by the lemon juice and sweet simple syrup.
That’s all there really is to it! While I always recommend freshly squeezed lemon juice for the BEST flavor, you can definitely use the bottled stuff if you’re making a big round of shots and don’t want to squeeze a bunch of lemons.
If you like Lemonheads (the candy), this might just be your new favorite shot. It’s almost like eating candy, but the lemon juice and vodka also prevent it from being overly sweet.
The best part about making your own at home is that you can make them more or less tangy and sweet based on your preferences… And you won’t be annoying a bartender by asking them to make it special for you!
How to Make a Lemon Drop Shot
You’ll feel like a bartender in your very own kitchen when you make these quick and easy shots! Oh, and don’t forget the sugar rim… It’s pretty for pictures and tastes amazing!
- Make it cold. Fill your cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
- Shake it up! Measure all of the ingredients and pour them into the shaker. Shake vigorously and strain into chilled shot glasses.
So easy and so inexpensive. You’ll never want to overpay for a Lemon Drop Shot at a bar again!
What kind of alcohol is in a Lemon Drop Shot?
Vodka! When making lemon drops, I don’t recommend swapping that liquor with any other kind. And while you don’t need to spend a lot of money on a top shelf bottle, I do recommend staying away from the bottom shelf options. Super cheap vodka usually results in a pretty bad headache the following day! Plus, it never tastes great. When selecting a vodka, any middle of the road option should work fabulously.
Tips for the Best Lemon Drop Shot
- Consider making your own simple syrup. Making your own Simple Syrup costs SO MUCH less than buying the stuff at the store! You only need sugar, water, and about 10 minutes out of your day. Plus, you can keep it handy to flavor your coffees, teas, and plenty of other cocktails.
- Give it a floral flair. If you really want to go the extra mile, consider making some Lavender Simple Syrup to sweeten your shots with! The naturally floral flavor of lavender combined with the sweetness of the sugar and the tangy lemon juice is a delightful combination.
- Don’t forget to add the rim and chill the glasses. Lemon drops always go down smoother when they’re nice and cold. While shaking them with ice helps a lot, serving them in a chilled glass makes them even better! Oh, and the sugar rims not only add sweetness, but they also increase the presentation value a lot.
