Well, hello, friends! Boy, do I have a line up of some great grilling recipes in the coming weeks. I LOVE to grill, it’s my favorite way to cook…especially when the weather is warm. It’s easy, there’s hardly any dishes…definitely no giant pots and pans to clean, and mostly healthy! Unless your making a big juicy beef burger….well, then, embrace your cheat day and enjoy. But either way, grilling is just a super way to get dinner on the table with tons of flavor. And this Spicy Barbecue Sauce definitely helps to pump up the flavor in a big way.

My husband is a big fan of Spicy Barbecue Sauce. I, on the other hand, am a sweet BBQ fan! It’s always a battle over the sauces when it comes time to grill and sometimes I’ll try to do a little of both…but then…I get distracted and can’t remember which food has which sauce. In that case, they end up with both sweet AND spicy…which is not a bad thing. And it’s also how I came up with this recipe!

This Spicy Barbecue Sauce has a little bit of everything, sweet, tangy, spicy, saucy. It’s thick and a little chunky…which I LOVE because you can tell right off the bat it did NOT come from a grocery store shelf. It is so easy to make in just one pot and you can double or triple to recipe to make a big batch for later. It’s perfect on pork, chicken and beef but I also love slathering some on my veggies. It just takes them from boring to bah-BAM! Trust me on that one.

Take a little time when you make this Spicy Barbecue Sauce recipe to get the heat level just right for you and your family. Like it super spicy…add a little more cayenne and toss in another jalapeño. Like it a little more on the tame side with just a whisper of heat? Remove the seeds and white vein from you jalapeño before adding it to the recipe. Either way, you can customize it to your liking and grill up your favorite meats or veggies with award-winning flavor! And if you want to try something a little different in the barbecue arena, brew up this ahhhhmazing barbecue sauce instead. It’s always a surprise when I tell my guests what’s in it! Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large vidalia onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 jalapeno, diced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce, I like Muir Glen Organic
  • 1/4 cup Ketchup
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • kosher salt and fresh ground pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over med-high heat. Add the onion to the pot and cook until softened, approximately 4-5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and jalapeño. Cook for 1-2 minutes longer or until the garlic is fragrant. Stir in the paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper, onion powder, dry mustard, brown sugar and cider vinegar. Cook for 1 minute. Add the tomato sauce, ketchup, molasses and worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine.
  • Turn the heat to low and allow the sauce to simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Cool the sauce to room temperature before transferring to an airtight container. Can be made up to 1 week in advance and stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
