The infamous sandwich, complete with “Moist Maker”, made famous by the hit TV show Friends. Ross Geller’s Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Sandwich is the BEST way to clean out the fridge the day after Thanksgiving. Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy and the all important Moist Maker piled high into the most epic sandwich ever made. One of my most favorite things.

Holy WOW! It’s Black Friday already and I’m here with a pile of leftovers that I’m ready to dive into….right after we hang the lights outside. I’m not heading out to the mall because last time I tried that the day after Thanksgiving I may have had a minor road rage incident in the parking lot and that’s not really the best way to get into the holiday spirit. INSTEAD….I plan to partake in the Friends marathon that is running on one of the television stations then stuffing my face full of reinvented leftovers. But first….I’ll make Ross Geller’s Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Sandwich. It.Is.Epic.

If you’re not familiar with Friends…or Ross Geller…than I may have lost you at the title. But if you’re a “Friends” fan like I am, you most definitely know that this sandwich….the one that his sister, Monica, made for him then was stolen from his office refrigerator….and was the catalyst for his emotional breakdown….is THE Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Sandwich that is on the MUST MAKE list every year. Essentially, the sandwich seems pretty standard….turkey, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce piled high on sturdy bread. But what makes catapults this sandwich into epic sandwich territory is the use of what Ross calls the “Moist Maker”…..a slice of bread that’s drenched in gravy then strategically placed in the center of the sandwich keeping things…..well, moist. (Don’t you just HATE that word!?!?)

“The One with Ross’s Sandwich” is one of my favorite Friends episodes because I can totally relate to the crushing realization that someone stole your lunch out of the office refrigerator. I’ve been there….epic salads vanishing out of thin air and you can’t even fathom the blatant rudeness of coworkers. The urge to run through the office screaming with “hanger” and placing blame on anyone with a shred of lettuce stuck in their teeth. It’s maddening….so I can’t even imagine the horror of a missing Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Sandwich complete with a Moist Maker.

The Moist Maker is a truly genius invention and is now a requirement in my Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Sandwich. For my version, which may stray a bit from the Ross Geller original, has roast turkey (duh), sausage stuffing, my favorite sweet potato casserole, the BEST homemade cranberry sauce, maple bourbon gravy piled on homemade brioche (leftover from my stuffing). I toyed with the idea of adding cheese and bacon but really…..just look at it….it’s perfect as is. Don’t you agree? And you’ll be using up MOST of the leftovers…..the rest you can add to this Turkey Tortilla Soup…..or these easy Turkey Croquettes! And if you STILL have leftovers that you need to use up….definitely try out this easy Monte Cristo Sandwich. It doesn’t have a moist maker but it does have melty cheese and that’s almost as fabulous.
