Fruity and festive, this Easy Mimosa Float Recipe is made with orange sorbet and champagne for a fun cocktail fit for any brunch celebration! | TheSuburbanSoapbox.com

I’m currently mourning the passing of Christmas. All of the prep work that goes into one day and it’s over in a flash….kind of like a wedding but without having to take a second mortgage. The beautiful glittery decorations and all the gifts wrapped perfectly under the tree are soon a distant memory with the New Year looming right around the corner.

Usually, I dig my heels in a bit and try to keep the Christmas spirit a live for a few more days…..like my own version of the 12 days of Christmas. But this year, I’ve switched the radio back to my usual tunes and I’m just about ready to pack up the holiday decorations. I’m looking forward to New Year’s Eve with all the tasty eats, bubbly drinks and then waking up to a fun brunch complete with this Easy Sherbet Mimosa Float recipe.

SHERBET MIMOSA

I saved this Sherbet Mimosa Float recipe to share during that time when we all feel a bit in limbo. That time between Christmas and New Year’s when the winter gear is flying off the shelves at 70 percent off and nobody is really working. The kids are home from school and every square inch of the house is covered in legos. It seems like the perfect time for a cocktail. Don’t you think?

I shared it first on Fox 29 back in 2016 and, although, it’s not “technically” a mimosa….it does have all the flavor of a traditional mimosa with a frosty fizz like a grown up root beer float.

This fun and fizzy champagne cocktail is made with sherbet or sorbet. Either will work well in this beverage, then you top it off with a splash of orange liquor and finish with champagne. Like a Mimosa Float, if you will.

We love an Orange Sherbet Mimosa the best but you can totally make this with just about any flavor you want.

HOW TO MAKE IT

This Sherbet Mimosa recipe is as easy as it gets. Scoops of your favorite flavor sherbet or sorbet are plopped into a glass then topped with a bit of orange liquor and champagne to create the Best Mimosa recipe ever.

Garnish….don’t garnish….I like to keep things pretty simple here because chances are you’re either entertaining with a hangover or entertaining someone with a hangover. So, why make things more fussy than they need to be.

I like to create a sort of mimosa bar at my brunch gatherings because not everyone will want big, puffy balls of sorbet in their drink. I like to put out a few things to create a fun Bloody Mary and something like this fruity Paloma.

And since you’re already going to have a bunch of bottles of bubbly, add some pomegranate juice so guests can build their own Bellini. Now is there any other way you’d like to kick off the New Year? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

You don’t need to use a very expensive champagne to make your mimosas and you can even use a Prosecco if you have one handy.

To make a non-alcoholic mimosa, simply replace the champagne with sparkling cider or grape juice for a fun mocktail even the kids will enjoy.

SHERBET VS. SORBET

If you’re wondering what the difference is between sorbet and sherbet it’s actually very simple. A lot of people think they’re the same thing but, in actuality, sorbet is made with just fruit and sugar that’s been pureed before being churned.

Sherbet is made much the same way but has a bit of dairy added before being churned which gives it a creaminess that’s light and dreamy. If you prefer not to have dairy in your mimosa, then definitely use sorbet.

We love Sherbet because it reminds me of the champagne punch recipes my mom used to make for parties.
