Sweet Peas with Brown Butter
I’m trying something new these days and I hope you all like it…..I’m adding a few of my favorite side dishes because I just realized that I don’t have many side dishes on The Suburban Soapbox. And I have a ton of side dish recipes that I make all the time.
They’re all super easy, really fast and should absolutely be shared with the world.
Even the biggest pea naysayer will say they’re totally amazing. And cooking peas is quite simple to do in a skillet, especially with brown butter because brown butter makes everything infinitely better.
What Is Brown Butter
If you’re not familiar with brown butter it’s basically butter that’s melted and then cooked until the solids turn a golden brown making the flavor develop a kind of nuttiness that’s totally addicting.
And so totally easy to make. THEN….I turned to a classic ingredient that’s always paired with peas in the spring, it seems…..fresh mint. I always see recipes for Fresh Peas with Mint and while I love that combo I think it still needs a salty, buttery background that only can be provided with brown butter.
How To Make Sweet Peas
Melt the butter in a medium skillet over medium heat.
Swirl the pan, once melted, until the butter solids begin to turn golden brown.
Add the peas to the pan and toss to coat. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
Stir in the mint. Season with salt and pepper.
Serve immediately.
And I know I keep talking about fresh peas….and spring peas but the truth of the matter is, you can totally pull off this recipe with a bag of frozen, thawed peas. You won’t taste much difference but the snappiness of fresh peas just makes me feel like, even though Old Man Winter has overstayed his welcome, spring is just a moment away.
These Spring Peas with Mint and Brown Butter are just what you need to get over that silly transitional hump into warmer weather. And Brown Butter Peas with Mint may end up being one of your favorite meals….if you’re anything like me.
What To Serve Them With

This was delish! Thanks for the recipe.
Re Whining. LOL I can relate and I don’t think kids will necessarily stop whining of their own accord. I’ve seen many take it into adulthood! Here is what worked for us with both our kids: we didn’t engage with them when they were whining. We calmly yet firmly told them we can’t understand them when they are whining and that they need to speak in a normal voice using words and sentences to communicate effectively. And we were consistent about it. That pretty much nipped the whining in the bud. Thankfully 🙂
Thank you so much for the tips!!! So glad you liked the recipe, too.
