Air Fryer French Toast

What did we ever do before the air fryer came along and made life a million times easier?! I know I may sound dramatic, but I don’t think I could ever give up my air fryer. You know when people ask that question about bringing stuff to a deserted island? Well, if I could bring one thing to a deserted island (that hopefully has electricity), it would be my air fryer… Mainly so I could make this french toast.

It’s very similar to my favorite French Toast recipe but this method for cooking french toast has totally changed how often I treat my loved ones. Now, instead of standing over a hot oven and flipping slices of eggy bread, the air fryer does pretty much all of the work for me! I feel like I treat my family to a whole lot more french toast mornings now that I have this nifty trick in my back pocket. And don’t worry – just because we’re cutting a corner here doesn’t make the french toast any less delicious.

In fact, I really love how crispy the outside of the french toast gets when cooked in the air fryer! The inside stays soft and warm while the outside is cooked to almost a caramelized perfection. Also, the ingredients here are classic for french toast, so you’ll still get the signature taste you’re looking for. Top off your slices with maple syrup, berries, whipped cream, and whatever else your breakfast loving heart desires!

How to Make Air Fryer French Toast

  1. Prep. Preheat the air fryer to 325°F.
  2. Whisk. In a shallow bowl, whisk together 3 eggs.
  3. Add more ingredients and whisk again. Then add 1 ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract, ½ cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar to the egg mixture. Whisk together until combined.
  4. Coat the bread. Start by dipping each piece of texas toast into the egg mixture. Do not submerge the toast but ensure you float each side of the bread so that it is coated with the mixture.
  5. Cook the french toast. Spray the air fryer tray with a coating of cooking spray. Place the coated french toast in the air fryer for 5 minutes. Then flip and bake for an additional 5 minutes or until golden brown. (Air fryer temps may vary per model).
  6. Enjoy! Remove the french toast from the air fryer and serve with your favorite butter, syrup, and powdered sugar.

How To Freeze It

Once the french toast is cooled completely to room temperature, place it in a freezer safe food storage container that’s airtight. Properly stored, this french toast will stay fresh for up to 3 months in the freezer. It’s a wonderful make ahead breakfast!

Variations to Try

  • For an autumnal treat, add some Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice to the egg mixture! You can also enhance that fall flavor even more by adding some Chai Spice Pumpkin Butter on your slices when you serve this breakfast.
  • You can replace the milk in this recipe with almond, oat, or even coconut milk if you’d prefer a plant based substitute to dairy.
  • To elevate the warmth in this french toast even more, add a pinch of nutmeg along with the cinnamon in the egg mixture.
  • Texas toast is a favorite of mine, but slices of bakery fresh brioche bread also makes for delicious french toast.
Syrup is being drizzled on top of a serving of french toast with berries.
