Hot Honey Glazed Salmon

When it comes to perfect proteins, it doesn’t get much better than salmon. A single 6 oz filet has approximately 17 grams of protein and just about 250 calories, so it’s guaranteed to keep you full without over indulging! Even if you’re not counting calories, salmon’s still great for your body because it’s rich in omega-3 fatty acids, tons of potassium, and great vitamins like vitamin B12 and vitamin D!

All of those health benefits are amazing, but they don’t mean too much if the salmon isn’t delicious, right? You can eat a super healthy dinner and still feel like pecking at something afterwards if the meal wasn’t satisfying. Well, you’re in luck! The hot honey glaze on this salmon is seriously mouthwatering, and the salmon itself is perfectly baked. It’s flaky, fork tender, and juicy on the inside will being just crispy enough on the outside.

As tasty as the natural flavor of salmon is, let’s be real… It’s all about how you dress it up! With majorly bold ingredients like hot honey, soy sauce, garlic chili paste and SO much more, this salmon is dressed up quite deliciously. When served over a bed of freshly cooked white rice and topped with sesame seeds and green onions, this easy to make and budget-friendly dinner tastes like a restaurant staple!

How to Make Glazed Salmon

  1. Preheat. Preheat your oven to 425˚F.
  2. Make the sauce. In a small saucepan, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, rice wine, rice wine vinegar, garlic chili paste, sesame oil and ginger.
  3. Thicken the glaze. Bring the glaze to a boil over medium heat until slightly thickened. Remove from the heat and set aside.
  4. Arrange the filets. Arrange the salmon filets, skin side down, in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment.
  5. Brush the filets. Brush the salmon filets with half the glaze using a pastry brush or silicon brush.
  6. Bake! Bake the salmon for 10 minutes or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
  7. Broil – optional, but highly recommended. Optional step, to caramelized the top of the salmon, broil for 1-2 minutes keeping a close eye on the salmon as the glaze can burn quickly if you’re not looking.
  8. Enjoy! Remove the salmon from the oven and serve with the remaining sauce for drizzling. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onion, if desired.

How To Make Hot Honey

While many supermarkets and places like Trader Joe’s sell hot honey, you can easily make your own at home. Just combine 3 tbsp of your favorite honey (I recommend using an organic locally sourced one if possible) and 1 tbsp of cayenne powder. You can add more or less cayenne depending on how spicy you’d like your glaze to be.

What kind of salmon filet should I use?

Not all salmon filets are created equally per se, but I’ll let you in on a little secret… you really can’t go wrong with any of them. There’s sockeye, pink, coho, and king salmon filets available from most fishmongers. As long as it’s not a frozen filet, you’re good to go! If you do have to purchase a frozen salmon filet, just be sure to let it thoroughly thaw prior to cooking.

Storage

In an airtight container in the fridge, any leftovers you have will stay fresh for about 3-4 days. You can reheat using the air fryer or oven, but I don’t recommend using the microwave. The microwave will zap the flavor and consistency right out of this glazed salmon.
