Margarita Mix

Nothing says summer to me like a cold, classic margarita. Lounging by the pool with a margarita in my hand and the sun shining down on me? Heaven. Especially if someone else is serving me. However, that part might be more of a dream than a reality! Thankfully, this classic margarita mix is a breeze to make, so I can spend less time prepping and more time poolside.

The fresh orange and lime juice really make this mix stand out from the stuff you buy at the store. There’s something about freshly squeezed juice and citrusy orange and lime zest that feels so much more refreshing and light than prepackaged mixes. Trust me, once you have a margarita made with fresh juices, all you’ll be able to taste are the artificial flavors in the other stuff.

You can also easily double the batch for a big Cinco de Mayo party or your next outdoor soiree. I know I love a festive happy hour! And the best part is, you can make this mix ahead of time while you’re still in your loungewear. Pull the pitcher from the fridge, add the tequila and triple sec, doll yourself up, and be ready to really dazzle your party guests!

How to Make It

This incredibly easy mix comes together in just a few simple steps. Once you make it, you’ll be wondering why you ever bothered with that nasty store-bought stuff! This mix is incredibly easy and SO refreshing. Less stress, more margaritas, please!

Whisk. In a large pitcher, whisk together the sugar, freshly squeezed orange juice, orange zest, fresh lime juice, lime zest and salt.

Make sure the sugar’s dissolved! Whisk, whisk, and whisk some more until the sugar is completely dissolved. You could substitute the granulated sugar for Simple Syrup if you want to take this homemade mix to the next level!

Store. Store the margarita mix in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you are ready to party! It’ll stay fresh in the fridge for up to two weeks, so it’ll keep you smiling all summer long.

How to Make a Pitcher of Margaritas

Combine. In a large pitcher, combine all of the margarita mix with 2 cups of tequila and 1/4 cup triple sec.

Chill. Stir and chill until nice and cold.

Serve. Serve in glasses rimmed with salt. Or skip the salt and add sugar to the rim for a sweeter taste! I’m a salt rimmed fan, myself.

Enjoy. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your pitcher of fresh margaritas!

Freshly sliced citrus is surrounding two cups.

Can I make frozen margaritas with this mix?

You sure can! To make frozen margaritas, just pour 2 cups margarita mix with 1/2 cup tequila and 2 shots triple sec. Then, blend with ice cubes until smooth and slushy. It’s a really fun variation to try!

What other variations can I try?

Try a strawberry margarita! Throw everything into a blender with fresh, sliced strawberries (if you’re opting for frozen, use frozen strawberries or add ice to the blender), blend until smooth, and garnish with a nice, fresh strawberry and a lime wedge.

Also, instead of lime juice, try grapefruit, berry, or watermelon flavored juice! Or make this Spicy Pineapple Margarita!

Feel free to experiment with different types of alcohol. Tequila is definitely traditional, but did you know there are bourbon margaritas and vodka margaritas?! Of course, you could always make it a mocktail by using sparkling water instead of alcohol.
