Easy Ghost Donut Pops | The Suburban Soapbox #halloween

So…we bought our first pumpkin yesterday. I’m sure it will be rotted out well before Halloween but Landon is ready to go. We bought a costume at Home Goods a few weeks ago and he’s already taken it for a test run quite a few times. And since we count down to various events by the number of “sleeps”…he does understand we have a long wait before Halloween actually arrives.

It was only fitting that I post my first Halloween treat of the season. I noticed a lot of people pinning Halloween goodies over on Pinterest so I thought I’d join you all and succumb to the fact that fall is coming. I may have even hung my fall wreath on the door (more because I LOVE it so much than the fact that it’s almost fall.)  And so…..I made some Ghost Donut Pops. Like a cake pop but with donut holes…because I’m all about time-saving and efficiently. They go just perfectly with my Gingerbread Mummies and THESE spooky rice krispie treats!

I made cake pops exactly once and there’s a very good reason for that…that a big pain in the behind. Not my favorite thing at all but I love how cute and festive they are. There had to be a better way….and I found it. You know those donut holes??? Yeah, that’s the better way. And they’re so easy to make that I even made you a video to convince you that anyone can make these and not spend 30 million hours in the kitchen. I used Wilton pre-made fondant, Wilton candy eyes, Wilton Candy Melts and THIS pen.

If you need a treat to wow your kids (and, really, the other moms in the class) these Ghost Donut Pops are the ticket. They’ll wonder how late you had to stay up to make them and how you managed to look so good with so little sleep. It will be our little secret.

Ingredients

  • 1 12 ounce bag white chocolate, I used Wilton Candy Melts
  • 20 large donut holes
  • 1 24 ounce package pre-made fondant, I used Wilton White Decorator Preferred Fondant
  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar, for dusting
  • 40 candy eyes, I used Wilton Small Candy Eyes
  • 20 cake pop sticks

Instructions

  • Melt the chocolate in the microwave according to the manufacturers instructions. Dip one end of the cake pop stick into the chocolate and insert it into the donut hole being sure not to go all the way through. Set aside to allow the chocolate to harden. Repeat with remaining donut holes.
  • On a clean surface, sprinkle a little confectioners sugar and spread it to create a thin layer. Roll out a softball size ball of fondant out until about 1/4 inch thick. Using a biscuit cutter, cut out circles and set aside. Cover with a damp cloth to prevent the fondant from drying out while you cut out the remaining circles. You should cut 20 circles. (for 20 donut pops) Spread more confectioners' sugar on your work surface and roll out each circle until they're all paper thin. Keep covered with a damp cloth while you work.
  • Place a dime sized circle of water in the center of each circle and place on top of the donut pop so it drapes down over like a ghost. Using a toothpick or wooden skewer, place a dot of melted chocolate on the back of an eye and place it on the ghost to start the face. Repeat with a second eye. Continue gluing eyes on all the ghosts until they're all done. Using the pen, draw a mouth or any other decoration you'd like on your ghost.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 36 hours.
