If you’re looking for the BEST CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE RECIPE EVER….look no further. THIS is the OG of Chocolate Chip Cookies and you’re not going to believe how amazing it is. It has giant chocolate chunks, chocolate chips and a secret ingredient I added that makes them OVER THE TOP AMAZING!
Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies
The Very Best Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe is adapted from the super famous Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookie that, as legend has it, someone tried to buy at the swanky Neiman Marcus department store and later found out that they were charged $250 for the recipe.
This story is totally false, an urban legend, and you can actually buy a WHOLE cookbook from the department store with all their best recipes, like these triple chocolate cookies, for the super low price of $30, or something like that. It’s just about the only thing in the whole store that most people can afford.
Now, I do LOVE Neiman Marcus because I like to touch/feel/ smell/rub my face on really expensive designer items like Chanel tweed jackets and strappy Gucci sandals. But everything in there is so flipping expensive that, even if I DO buy something in there, I always feel a bit nauseous when I leave the store.
And not because I ate a cookie. The Neiman Marcus Cookie is there to ease the pain, I think. To make you forget you just spent a bazillion dollars on a tube of lipstick. They even give it to you in it’s own little shopping bag…just in case you want to save it for later.
How To Make The Best Chocolate Chip Cookie
A chocolate chip cookie is just a simple drop cookie recipe that originated in the United States and is studded with chocolate chips that melt into the dough when baked.
To make them, you’ll start by making the dough. Simply whisk together the dry ingredients and set aside. Then, beat the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add the remaining wet ingredients to combine.
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and beat until combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
Shape your chocolate chip cookie dough into 6 large balls and arrange on a baking sheet. Bake. Cool. Eat. So easy!
I like to add espresso powder to my cookie dough because it enhances the flavor of the chocolate chips. You can totally leave it out if you can’t find it easily but you can buy it on Amazon here.
Tips for Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies
- For the most intense chocolate flavor, use a variety of chocolate chips and chocolate chunks. Feel free to experiment, too!
- Allow your dough to rest a bit so your cookies don’t spread as much. My dough was quite warm in the video so it spread a ton contributing to my Oops! moment.
- Don’t over beat the dough when adding the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
- Fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula if you’re concerned about them breaking apart.
- Want pretty cookies? Add a few extra chocolate chips to the top of your cookies so they’re not hiding inside.
The Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe is one that will wow your friends and family. It’s really easy to make, not any more difficult than my original blue ribbon winning cookies or my dairy free version. The recipe makes 8 GIGANTIC cookies or 24 “normal” size cookies. They’re great for any occasion….big or small. 🙂
You can even give them as a gift by creating this fun cookie mix in a jar!

My friend made these and they were soooo good
Awww, I’m so glad you liked them!
Is the dough to be crumbly? I followed the recipe exactly.
Not really, it’s dryer than most cookie dough but should hold together.
These cookies are pretty amazing. This recipe has become a family and friends favorite. Dare I say it’s even become a tradition at Christmas time. I literally get requests for these cookies all the time. Sometimes I make them about a week or two in advance and freeze them with layers of parchment paper until I need them. I started making them on and off for different occasions over 3 years ago, and it’s the one cookie recipe that gets used the most in my house. I do try to use Ghirardelli chocolates if possible. But I’ve never had anyone tell me it tastes worse with different chocolates. Definitely fun to make with the kids even. We even were making these for their teachers at Christmas annually, but this year with Covid it’s seems the schools have been leaning toward store bought and wrapped items only. I really didn’t want these delicious cookies to make it into the trash on a technicality. Regardless. We love love love these cookies.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! I’m so glad you love them as much as (or more!) we do!!! We wanted to send them for the teacher this year, too, but she’s getting a gift card…..which is also good, too. 🙂
This doesn’t have any chill time?
Nope! You can just make the dough, then bake away!
Where does one find espresso coffee powder?
I found it in my grocery store coffee aisle. Some coffee shops will sell you a small amount, as well, if you can’t find it in your store.
King Arthur Flour sells a good one and you can find it at Sur la Table or Williams Sonoma.
Thank you!
We have a great one and a great price. It’s awesome to have on had for chocolate baking… it adds extra richness!!!

Thanks, Giuliana!!!
Hi, i l check another recipes and all most put oatmeal.
So its better with or no??
Thanks
I don’t use oatmeal in my recipe.
Can you make these smaller?
Absolutely! Just decrease the baking time by a couple minutes so they don’t burn.
Hi! I’m a French, passionate baker, and I would love to try your recipe, eventhough I don’t know neiman marcus cookies. But I wonder what’s the difference between semi sweet and milk chocolate? Thank you in advance!
Semi-sweet is at least 35 percent pure chocolate with added cocoa butter and sugar while Milk Chocolate is at least 10 percent pure chocolate with added cocoa butter and sugar. Most milk chocolates contain less pure chocolate than semisweet or bittersweet chocolates and have a milder flavor than darker chocolates. Thanks for visiting!
Oh I see, ok!! Thanks a lot. In France we have only white, milk or dark chocolate to bake and the dark chocolate family is declined thanks to its chocolate percentage (for instance 60% dark chocolate or 71% dark chocolate) but it’s still considered as a dark chocolate and not as semi-sweet for instance. This is why it was difficult for me to understand the nuance. In fact, our milk chocolate contains most of the time at least 30 to 40 percent pure chocolate so I guess I will consider my milk chocolate as your semi sweet one and search for a 10 percent chocolate (but I wonder if it exists though in France!). How complicated it is to translate recipes ahah!! Hope it’s worth the price 😉
It will be! 🙂
Girl, these look amazing! I am totally drooling over here and HAVE to make these today!
These definitely look like they could help induce comfort. I’m always on the lookout for tried and tested favourites. I love the combination of the different types of chocolate in this recipe. Seems like a bake say is coming up. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for visiting!
These giant goodies look amazing! I’ve never had one from Neiman Marcus — how is that possible? Too wrapped in (window) shopping, I guess 🙂
Window shopping is about my limit after the cookies. LOL!
I can’t believe I haven’t had a Neiman Marcus cookie before! I love that they give it to you in it’s own little bag- adorable!
Isn’t it so cute!
I’ve heard of the this recipe before and it looks fantastic!
I love these cookies!!
I feel like I’m missing out on some big life experience by never having had a Neiman Marcus cookie before! This isn’t the first time I’ve heard of them but I had no idea they were a thing before the blog world told me so! I can’t stand shopping and Neiman Marcus is definitely not a store I’m ever in if I’m forced to go (lol) BUT, I will happily recreate these epic looking things at home now thanks to your recipe 🙂
