Eggnog White Russian

If you’ve never had a white russian before, you should really turn on The Big Lebowski and try it sometime! Essentially, it’s a vodka, cream and kahlua cocktail that’s famously smooth and easy to sip on. While I enjoy a good white russian cocktail, I’ve never said it’s one of my favorite cocktails ever… Until I added eggnog to it, that is.

I’m a firm believer that eggnog is the flavor of the season. So sorry, peppermint! I think the most magical Christmas day is started with a heaping pile of eggnog french toast and is finished with a slice of eggnog pound cake. The thought came to me recently – why not add a splash of eggnog into a white russian and see if it’s as amazing as it sounds? As you can guess, it was!

The splash of eggnog makes the white russian more of a dessert cocktail. On Christmas, those are the very best to drink of course! The sweet and spiced flavors of the eggnog pair perfectly with the smooth and creamy white russian ingredients. Every sip is Christmas-y bliss! Garnish it with a dusting of freshly grated nutmeg if you’re really feeling fancy and festive. Cheers!

Ingredient Notes

Here’s what you need to make the very best eggnog white russian recipe:

  • Vodka – A good middle of the road vodka works just fine. It doesn’t need to be top shelf, but you want to stay away from the super cheap options.
  • Kahlua – Use the kahlua you have left to make my favorite peppermint mocha espresso martini! The subtle coffee flavor it creates in the cocktail really ties everything together nicely.
  • Eggnog – You really can’t beat my homemade eggnog recipe! It’s the best. Just omit the bourbon since we’re using the eggnog to make a vodka cocktail. Of course, store-bought eggnog works just fine.
  • Nutmeg and Cinnamon – These are optional garnishes. I highly recommend using them to serve these creamy cocktails! They enhance the spiced eggnog flavor in the best way, and they also add an extra aromatic element to each sip.

What is a white russian drink made of?

A typical white russian consists of cream, vodka, and kahlua. This festive Christmas version includes a splash of eggnog which really compliments the other flavors beautifully! You can use store-bought or homemade eggnog.

How to Make in Advance

Combine all of the ingredients and store in a pitcher in the fridge. This is great to do if you’re doubling or tripling the recipe to make a big batch! Do not add ice. Ice will just melt in the fridge and water down the drink. Store for a few hours before the party starts.
