Play Doh Spiders (Easy Halloween Treats)
The ultimate non food, non candy Halloween Treats, easy Play Doh Spiders are the DIY treat that kids will love. Super simple to make with easy to find supplies.
Raise your hand if you remember you school halloween party? 🙋We had one every year for as long as I can remember and we were overloaded with tons of candy, cookies and other sweets. My poor mother….I’m sure I had some sort of epic sugar high by the time I got home. And that silly Halloween parade was definitely not long enough to burn it all off.
Now, my son’s school doesn’t have a Halloween party. They have a harvest party. And then they celebrate Halloween with an optional evening Trunk or Treating event at the school. It’s kind of sad to see traditions vanish like that but I understand since not all family’s share in the celebration of Halloween.
And then, on a more serious note, the littles with food allergies totally is a big issue. It’s one I take VERY seriously because the last thing I want is to be the reason a child ends up with a serious allergy attack and a night in the hospital because of something I gave them to eat.
So, we’re early adopters of the Teal Pumpkin project and have been for years now. It’s one of my favorite new traditions and I keep close tabs on the treats our little neighbors can and can’t eat. I also like to keep Non Candy Halloween Treats at the ready for the newbies that show up and don’t know if they have allergies or not (and mom is still all the way on the curb so I can’t ask her.)
These easy to make Play Doh Spiders are my latest creation to add to the fun Halloween Treats for Kids. They’re simple and FUN to make….seriously, have you ever sat down and spent quality time with your glue gun lately? Mine was a little dusty but we “bonded” (get it) quite quickly like it was just yesterday we played together.
DIY HALLOWEEN TREATS
These easy Play Doh Spiders are quick and easy to make. You can even have the kids help you make them, especially if they’re a Halloween Treat for school!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Glue Gun
- Glue Sticks
- Mini Play Doh Pots – You can usually buy these at a party supply store, craft store or on Amazon.
- Medium size Pom Poms – You can buy a variety pack at craft stores and feel free to experiment with other sizes, too!
- Pipe Cleaners
- Wiggly Eyes
That’s it! So, inexpensive and simple and all kids LOVE Play Doh so this is always a winner!
HOW TO MAKE PLAY DOH SPIDERS
- Heat the glue gun and insert a glue stick.
- Cut the pipe cleaners in half.
- Place a dot of glue on the lid and top with a pom pom.
- Add a line of glue on each side of the pom pom directly on the lid and glue four pipe cleaner halves to each side.
- Allow the glue to set and bend the legs.
- Place a small dot of glue on the back of a wiggly eye and place on the pop pom. Repeat with the second eye.
- Allow the glue to set and you’re done!
- Repeat with remaining Play Doh pots.
To make your legs two toned, I simply twisted two pipe cleaners together and pinched the end up to keep it from unraveling. Cut the pipe cleaners in half and attach to the pot according to the directions above.
This Halloween Treat idea is also makes a great Halloween Party Favor for kids! And you can make them weeks in advance saving yourself time right before your ready to entertain.
