Homemade Poultry Seasoning is a warm, savory blend of herbs and seasonings that I love keeping on my spice rack! Use this seasoning mix in stuffings, soups, stews, and a variety of other recipes. Great to use for both chicken and turkey dishes!

Poultry Seasoning

If you’ve ever tasted someone’s stuffing on Thanksgiving and wondered what that secret ingredient was that made every bite taste so cozy and homey, guess what – it’s poultry seasoning! Stuffing isn’t the only recipe that shines with this seasoning blend. So many different soups, stews, and casseroles get their flavor from poultry seasoning.

The herbs in this seasoning mix include sage, thyme, marjoram and rosemary. It’s definitely what you’d refer to as an herbaceous flavor palate! Spices that make it all the more flavorful include nutmeg, white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika and celery salt. Poultry seasoning may have a long list of ingredients, but if you’re anything like me you may already have everything you need.

While there are a lot of flavors at play, they all balance each other pretty perfectly. Scroll on down to the recipe card to check out the exact measurements! When everything is measured just right, you get the very best flavor overall without one ingredients overpowering the others. Trust me, I had plenty of taste tests to get to the most perfect poultry seasoning.

How to Make Poultry Seasoning

Measure, mix, and enjoy! It’s that easy. For more exact step by step instructions and ingredient measurements, just scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of the page.

  1. Whisk. Measure all of the ingredients with care and add them to a bowl. Whisk to combine. Or, you can add everything to a glass jar and shake to combine. Either method works fine!
  2. Enjoy! You can either use your poultry seasoning right away or store it for later.

Storage

You can keep poultry seasoning in an airtight container for up to 3 months. For the freshest results, try to make sure that all of the herbs and spices you use to make this seasoning mix are all fresh as well! If there are ingredients used that have been sitting on your spice rack for too long, you won’t have the freshest tasting poultry seasoning.

Streamlining your spice drawer or cabinet is easier when all the bottles are the same shape and size. We love these simple glass bottles for storing our spices and the funnel makes it easier to refill them when you’re low.

How to Use Poultry Seasoning

Mix it into soups like chicken noodle soup and homemade chicken soup for added flavor. It’s also amazing in chicken stew! I also love sprinkling it in my favorite turkey chili. Chicken and dumplings is another family favorite that tastes so good with a sprinkle of poultry seasoning!

Truly, there are an endless amount of chicken and turkey recipes that benefit from poultry seasoning. This is one of my most reached-for jars on my spice rack. When you cook as often as I do, that’s saying a lot!

Tips for the Best Poultry Seasoning

  • Measure with care. This is so important! After some pretty fun taste tests, I really have narrowed down the best measurements so that no one ingredient listed here overpowers the others. If you add too much or too little of something, it’ll throw the whole blend out of whack.
  • You can blend it. If you want your herbs to be more of a powder like the other ingredients, you can toss everything in a small blender or coffee grinder.
  • Use fresh ingredients. Your seasoning blend should stay fresh for up to 3 months when kept out of direct sunlight in an airtight container. However, if all of the ingredients you’re using to make this blend are older, it won’t have the freshest taste.
