Thanksgiving Turkey Dessert Board

If you have a lot of family coming over this Thanksgiving, this is the dessert board you need to make! Dessert boards are kind of my thing, and for good reason – they’re ALWAYS a huge hit and receive plenty of compliments. Serving a cute dessert board like this one at a large gathering is a wonderful way to make sure everyone can grab something sweet that they like without stopping to slice or scoop.

Plus, just look at that thing. It’s too cute! While I do love making homemade Thanksgiving desserts like my favorite Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie and the ever classic Pumpkin Chiffon Pie, it’s also fun to offer up this sweet little turkey as the centerpiece of the dessert table.

It’s adorable, so make sure you let everyone get their pictures of it for Instagram before the kids start stealing handfuls. However, if you really want to be the hostess with the most-ess, you can always replenish the board as it empties.

While I usually sing the praises of homemade recipes, I won’t lie when I say that unwrapping store-bought treats is a great way to relieve a little stress on Thanksgiving!

While I spend the rest of the day slaving away over the oven, unwrapping and arranging these little store-bought treats is something fun and easy that I look forward to. Also, if you have little ones with clean hands running around, they’ll definitely love helping you put this turkey together! Just don’t be too surprised when they (and you) steal a bite here or there.

The ingredients for the dessert board are presented on a white serving platter, still in their wrappers and containers.

How to Make It

Pick the perfect board. I used a 24 inch pumpkin board for this recipe, but a round board works just as well. That’s the board I used in the Dessert Boards cookbook!

Start with the pear. Place the pear half at the bottom center of the board. It’s going to act as the face of our little turkey!

Form a circle with the roll slices. Arrange the pumpkin roll around the edge of the board to form a circle starting and ending at the pear.

Repeat the pattern with more treats. Repeat the pattern with the cookies, sugar cookies, and madeleines, and fill in any leftover spaces with the cupcakes and candy corn. You may not use all of the ingredients depending on the size of your board and that’s perfectly fine!

Give the turkey a face! Create the eyes and nose with the cloves (or candy eyes) and candy corn.

Make the legs. The legs are made with a piece of pretzel and candy corn.

Enjoy! Serve the board immediately, or cover it with plastic wrap and serve it within 6-8 hours. This is a great board to prepare the morning of Thanksgiving, so it’s ready to go by the evening time.

Ingredients for the Cutest Thanksgiving Turkey Dessert Board

You can get creative with your board! However, if you’d like it to look just like my turkey, here’s what you’ll need.

  • 1/2 of a pear
  • 1 pumpkin roll, sliced into 1/4 inch slices
  • 12-16 maple sandwich cookies (or other fall themed sandwich cookies)
  • 12-14 soft frosted sugar cookies
  • 12 pumpkin madeleines or other madeleine cookies
  • 6 mini fall themes cupcakes
  • 1 1/2 cups candy corn
  • 2 cloves or candy eyes

Also, keep in mind that you might need to go to different grocery stores to gather some of these items. While some stores may have everything you need, I typically like the variety of going to two to three different grocery stores.

Be sure to get a copy of the new Dessert Boards Cookbook, too! There are tons of other fun themed dessert board ideas!
