Whole Wheat Pizza Dough

Nutty and light, this Whole Wheat Pizza Dough is the real deal.  Made with 100% whole wheat flour and whipped up in the food processor, pizza night just got infinitely healthier.

There’s nothing better than a fresh, homemade pizza dough for relaxing pizza nights at home.  This Whole Wheat Pizza Dough rivals all others with it’s crisp, nutty flavor and it’s a bit healthier than this pizza dough I made last year.  AND it’s even easier to make using the KitchenAid 14-Cup Food Processor with Commercial-Style Dicing Kit.  The high, low and pulse speed options make it easy to whip up your pizza dough in just a couple minutes.  The handy dough blade ensures that your dough is not overworked so you end up with a soft, crispy crust every single time.

The KitchenAid 14-Cup Food Processor comes complete with a Commercial-Style Dicing Kit that I can’t WAIT to use for my pizza toppings.  The externally adjustable ExactSlice™ System features optimized speeds, and an external lever that allows you to go from thick to thin with just one slide!  Great for things like potatoes gratin and potato chips.

The Whole Wheat Pizza Dough is super simple to make by tossing all your dry ingredients into your KitchenAid 14-Cup Food Processor fitted with the dough blade and pulsing a few times.  Turn the machine on low and slowly add the water, then the oil.  Continue to run on low until a dough ball forms and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.

Remove the dough from the food processor bowl and place in a lightly oiled bowl.  Cover with a damp kitchen towel or plastic wrap and allow to rise in a warm place for one hour.

Once your dough has risen (you’ll be able to put a deep finger print in the dough without it springing back), divide the ball in half. Roll each half into a ball and place them on a parchment lined baking sheet to rest for 10-20 minutes.

Now your dough is ready to bake.  Top with your favorite pizza toppings and bake for 10-12 minutes.  For an extra crispy crust, coat your dough in oil before rolling into a thin 10-inch round disk. My favorite pizzas to make are this easy grilled Margherita and this one for dessert! Ingredients

  • 2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons dry active yeast
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 cup hot water 110 degrees
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of a food processor fitted with a dough hook, mix together the flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Slowly add the water and olive oil and continue mixing until the dough forms a ball and has pulled away from the sides. If the dough is too sticky, add flour 1 teaspoon at a time.
  2. Transfer the dough to a large, lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Allow the dough to rest and double in size, approximately 1 hour.
  3. Transfer to a lightly floured surface and divide the dough into 2 equal pieces. Form each piece into a ball and allow to rest 10 minutes before rolling out. If storing for later, lightly coat each dough ball with olive oil and store in a zip top bag for up to 5 days.

  1. We make pizza every week, but I make my dough in my bread maker. I am so excited to whip out my food processor and give this a try!

  2. I totally need to try this! I rely way too heavily on Trader Joe’s pizza dough. 🙂
