Kellie’s Note
That’s a Wrap

If there was ever a fast food menu item I took personally when it disappeared, it was the McDonald’s Snack Wrap. Crispy chicken, cool crunchy lettuce, shredded cheese, creamy ranch and that soft flour tortilla, it was simple, but somehow completely irresistible.

So yes, I was thrilled when Snack Wraps finally returned to McDonald’s. But by then, I’d already figured out how to make my own version at home, and it turns out they’re ridiculously easy. With frozen chicken tenders and a handful of refrigerator staples, I can have these Chicken Snack Wraps on the table in about the same amount of time it would take me to find my shoes, get in the car and wait in the drive thru.

And because I’m always looking for quick dinners that my family will actually be excited about, this Snack Wrap Recipe has become one of those back-pocket meals I make when nobody has a dinner plan, including me.

The classic Ranch Snack Wrap is my favorite, but I’ve included an easy Spicy Snack Wrap variation too, so everyone can pick their favorite.

Why You’ll Love My Snack Wraps

  • Dinner in about 15 minutes. Frozen chicken tenders do most of the work, which is exactly what I want on a busy night.
  • They really do hit that McDonald’s Snack Wrap craving. Crispy chicken, cool lettuce, cheese, ranch and a warm tortilla give you all those familiar flavors and textures.
  • The air fryer makes them ridiculously easy. The chicken gets golden and crunchy while you prep everything else.
  • Everyone can customize their own. Ranch, spicy, extra cheese, less lettuce—set everything out and let everyone build their perfect Chicken Snack Wrap.
  • They work for more than dinner. Snack Wraps are great for quick lunches, after-school snacks, game day or those nights when everyone is eating at a different time.
  • No complicated breading required. I love a homemade crispy chicken tender, but that is not what we’re doing on a Tuesday at 6:15. A good frozen tender is perfect here.

Ingredients For McDonald’s Snack Wraps

The ingredient list is refreshingly short, which is one reason this recipe has become such an easy dinner fallback.

  • Breaded chicken tenders – Choose a plain or mildly seasoned frozen chicken tender so the flavor stays close to a McDonald’s Chicken Snack Wrap. Crispy chicken strips work too. You can also use homemade breaded chicken tenders or grilled chicken if you prefer.
  • Flour tortillas – I like soft 8-inch flour tortillas. They’re big enough to hold the filling without turning your Snack Wrap into a full-size burrito. Smaller fajita-size tortillas work if your chicken tenders are small.
  • Iceberg lettuce – This is not the time for fancy greens. Finely shredded iceberg gives you that cold, crisp crunch that makes a Ranch Snack Wrap taste right. Romaine is a good substitute.
  • Cheese – Mild cheddar or a cheddar-jack blend works beautifully. Colby Jack is another good option.
  • Ranch dressing – Use your favorite bottled ranch or homemade ranch dressing. Since there are so few ingredients, use one you really like.
  • Seasonings – If your chicken tenders are lightly seasoned, a little salt, pepper and garlic powder right after cooking wakes them up.
  • Oil or butter – Totally optional, but a tiny bit in the skillet is helpful if you want to warm or lightly toast the tortillas.

Ranch Snack Wrap vs. Spicy Snack Wrap

The Ranch Snack Wrap is the simplest version: crispy chicken, lettuce, cheese and ranch.

For an easy homemade Spicy Snack Wrap, swap the ranch for your favorite spicy pepper sauce or spicy mayo. You can also stir hot sauce into ranch for a creamy spicy version. Start with a little, you can always make it hotter.

If I’m feeding a crowd, I put both sauces on the table and let everyone make their own.

How to Make a Snack Wrap

These are so easy that once you’ve made them once, you probably won’t need the recipe again.

  1. Get the chicken really crispy. Cook the frozen chicken tenders in the air fryer, oven or skillet until they’re deeply golden on the outside and piping hot in the center. If they’re large, slice them lengthwise into strips so they tuck neatly into the tortilla instead of fighting you every time you take a bite.
  2. Give them a little extra seasoning if needed. Some frozen tenders are more flavorful than others. Taste one and add a light sprinkle of salt, pepper or garlic powder while they’re hot if they need a boost.
  3. Warm the tortillas. This takes seconds but makes a huge difference. You want them soft, warm and flexible, not stiff enough to crack when you fold them.
  4. Build your Snack Wrap. Sprinkle cheese down the center of each tortilla, add a handful of cold shredded lettuce and top with the hot crispy chicken. The contrast between that crunchy lettuce and warm chicken is exactly what you’re looking for.
  5. Add the sauce. Drizzle ranch generously over the chicken for a Ranch Snack Wrap or use spicy pepper sauce for the Spicy Snack Wrap.
  6. Wrap it up. Fold the bottom of the tortilla up, then bring in the sides so you have a snug handheld wrap. If you want, place it seam-side down in a warm skillet for about a minute. The tortilla gets just a little toasty and the wrap stays tucked together.

Serve them immediately while the chicken is crunchy and the lettuce is still cold and crisp.

Kellie’s Tips for the Best Snack Wrap

  • Use crispy chicken. This is the big one. If the breading is soft, the whole wrap will lack texture. Give those chicken tenders enough time to become deeply golden and crunchy.
  • Don’t overstuff them. I know it’s tempting, but a Snack Wrap should be easy to pick up and eat. Too much filling makes it fall apart.
  • Warm the tortilla. A warm tortilla wraps more tightly and is much less likely to split.
  • Dry your lettuce. Wet lettuce + ranch + tortilla = soggy wrap. Make sure your shredded iceberg is nice and dry.
  • Keep the lettuce cold. Hot crispy chicken against cool crunchy lettuce is part of what makes these so good.
  • Slice big tenders. If your chicken strips are enormous, cut them lengthwise before building the wrap. You’ll get chicken in every bite and the tortilla will close properly.
  • Make a Snack Wrap bar. This is especially great for family dinner. Put out ranch, spicy sauce, lettuce and cheese and let everyone assemble their own.
  • Eat them right away. Crispy chicken Snack Wraps are at their absolute best as soon as they’re assembled.

How to Store Snack Wraps

Snack Wraps are definitely best assembled right before you eat them. Ranch plus lettuce plus a tortilla sitting overnight is basically an invitation to Soggy Town.

  • If you’re planning ahead, store the components separately.
  • Keep cooked chicken tenders in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them in the air fryer or oven so the breading gets crisp again rather than microwaving them.
  • Store shredded lettuce in a separate container lined with a paper towel to absorb excess moisture. Keep the cheese, dressing and tortillas separate.
  • When you’re ready to eat, warm the chicken and tortilla and assemble a fresh Snack Wrap.

What to Serve with Snack Wraps

For the full fast-food-at-home situation, fries are the obvious answer. And I’m certainly not going to argue with that.

For an easy family dinner, I usually make two Snack Wraps per person with a simple side and call it a night.

McDonald’s Snack Wrap Variations

Once you’ve got the basic Snack Wrap Recipe down, it’s very easy to change it up.

Spicy Snack Wrap

Replace the ranch with spicy pepper sauce, spicy mayo or ranch mixed with your favorite hot sauce. Pepper Jack cheese is pretty fantastic here too.

Grilled Chicken Snack Wrap

Swap the breaded chicken tenders for grilled chicken strips. It’s a great option if you loved the older grilled-style Chicken Snack Wraps or simply don’t want breaded chicken.

Honey Mustard Snack Wrap

Use honey mustard instead of ranch. Sweet, tangy and especially popular with kids.

Buffalo Chicken Snack Wrap

Toss the crispy chicken with a little buffalo sauce, then drizzle with ranch. It’s not traditional, but nobody at my table has ever complained.

BBQ Chicken Snack Wrap

Replace the ranch with barbecue sauce or do a little ranch-and-BBQ combo.

Extra Cheesy Snack Wrap

Add another sprinkle of cheese directly over the hot chicken so it softens just slightly before you fold the wrap.

This easy McDonald’s Snack Wrap copycat is made with crispy chicken tenders, shredded lettuce, cheddar cheese and creamy ranch tucked into a warm flour tortilla. Make the classic Ranch Snack Wrap or swap in spicy sauce for an easy Spicy Snack Wrap, all in about 15 minutes.

Equipment

  • air fryer optional
  • chef's knife
  • cutting board

Ingredients

  • 8-12 frozen breaded chicken tenders, about 1-1 1/2 pounds, plain or mildly seasoned
  • 4 soft 8-inch flour tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese or cheddar-jack cheese
  • 1/2-3/4 cup ranch dressing
  • Kosher salt, optional
  • Black pepper, optional
  • Garlic powder, optional
  • Neutral oil or butter for warming tortillas, optional

Instructions

Cook the chicken tenders.

  • Air Fryer: Cook the frozen chicken tenders at 400°F for 8-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden, crispy and heated to 165°F internally.
  • Oven: Arrange the chicken tenders on a rack set over a baking sheet and bake at 425°F for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crispy and cooked through.
  • Skillet: Heat a thin layer of neutral oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the tenders for 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until hot and crisp.
  • Taste the cooked chicken and season lightly with salt, pepper and garlic powder, if needed. Slice large tenders lengthwise into 2-3 strips.

Assemble the Snack Wraps

  • Warm the tortillas in the microwave wrapped in a damp paper towel for 20-30 seconds, or warm individually in a lightly buttered skillet for 10-15 seconds per side, until soft and pliable.
  • Place a warm tortilla on a work surface. Sprinkle approximately 1/4 cup cheese down the center and top with 1/2 cup shredded lettuce.
  • Arrange approximately 2 chicken tenders, sliced into strips if necessary, over the lettuce.
  • Drizzle with 2-3 tablespoons ranch dressing.
  • Fold the bottom edge of the tortilla up over the filling, then fold in the sides to form a snug wrap. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
  • Serve immediately or place the wraps seam-side down in a warm skillet for 30-60 seconds to lightly toast and seal.

Notes

  • For the crispiest Snack Wraps, I prefer cooking the frozen chicken tenders in the air fryer.
  • Choose plain or mildly seasoned chicken tenders so the flavor stays close to the McDonald’s version.
  • For a Spicy Snack Wrap, replace the ranch with spicy pepper sauce, spicy mayo or ranch mixed with hot sauce to taste.
  • Colby Jack or cheddar-jack cheese can be substituted for mild cheddar.
  • Iceberg lettuce gives you the most authentic cold, crunchy texture, but finely shredded romaine also works.
  • Warm the tortillas before assembling so they’re easier to fold without cracking.
  • Don’t assemble the wraps until you’re ready to serve. For make-ahead meals, refrigerate all of the components separately and reheat the chicken before building the wraps.

Are McDonald’s Snack Wraps back?

Yes! McDonald’s brought Snack Wraps back to the U.S. menu, and the current menu includes both Ranch and Spicy versions.

Which is excellent news.

But it hasn’t stopped me from making these because sometimes dinner needs to happen without putting on actual shoes.

What is in a McDonald’s Snack Wrap?

The current McDonald’s Snack Wrap is made with a crispy chicken strip, shredded cheese and lettuce in a soft tortilla with either ranch or spicy pepper sauce.

My homemade version uses the same basic combination but starts with frozen crispy chicken tenders to make things incredibly easy.

What size tortilla is best for a Snack Wrap?

I prefer an 8-inch soft flour tortilla. It’s large enough to wrap comfortably around the chicken while still keeping that classic Snack Wrap size.

Can I use grilled chicken instead?

Absolutely. Use sliced grilled chicken breast or grilled chicken tenderloins in place of breaded chicken.

Can I make Snack Wraps ahead of time?

You can prep everything ahead, but don’t assemble until you’re ready to eat. Cook the chicken, shred the lettuce and cheese and refrigerate everything separately. Reheat the chicken until crispy, warm the tortilla and assemble just before serving.

How do you keep a Snack Wrap from falling apart?

Warm the tortilla first and don’t add too much filling. Fold the bottom edge up over the filling, then bring the sides toward the center. You can also toast it briefly seam-side down in a skillet to help seal it.
