Grilled Rack of Lamb

When it comes to real showstopper recipes, it’s hard to beat a classic grilled rack of lamb. Sure, everyone can serve steaks and lobsters at their dinner parties, and that’s all tasty.

But a grilled rack of lamb is a surefire way to get people running to the table, ready to dig in and toss compliments your way! Although the task of perfectly grilling a rack of lamb may seem daunting to some, I promise that it’s really much simpler than it may seem.

There’s really nothing to fuss over when it comes to grilling lamb. This showstopper of a recipe is surprisingly easy, and it’s guaranteed to get a big reaction every time you serve it.

Also, this recipe calls for very simple ingredients that enhance the natural flavor fo the grilled meat rather than cover it up. If you’d like to add more seasonings you can definitely go for it, but I encourage you to try it the more simple way first just so you can really enjoy the savory taste of the lamb itself.

If you’ve never enjoyed grilled lamb before, this recipe’s a great place to start! Every time I follow this simple recipe, I end up with the most tender, savory, and tasty meat that pairs perfectly with an abundance of side dishes. While it may seem like a fancier main course, grilled lamb is actually quite simple!

However, I do enjoy how gorgeously it plates, especially when placed next to other show stopping side dishes. This is one of those recipes that benefits greatly from a pretty presentation!

How to Make It

Season. Combine the olive oil and lemon juice in a small bowl. Brush the entire surface of the lamb with the olive oil and sprinkle liberally with salt and pepper.

Prep. Prepare the grill by heating to high heat (approximately 400˚F.)

Grill. Place the lamb on the grill grates over direct heat with the bone side up. Grill the lamb with the lid open for 4-5 minutes. Flip the rack over and cook on the opposite side for an additional 4-5 minutes.

Lower the heat. Turn the grill to low or move the rack to an area of indirect heat. Close the lid and continue cooking for an additional 10-15 minutes depending on the size of your lamb.

Rest. Remove the lamb when the internal temperature reaches 125˚F for medium rare. Transfer the lamb to a platter and cover with foil. Rest for 10 minutes.

Enjoy! Cut the lamb in between the bones and serve immediately. Enjoy!

If you want to impart even more flavor, use this marinade overnight for even juicier lamb chops!

What should I serve this grilled lamb with?

You can go as big or small as you’d like to with your side dishes. If you’d like something simple to compliment the grilled lamb, opt for a side salad. If you want something heartier on the plate, Mashed Potatoes are always a good option, as is our favorite fondant potatoes. Of course, I usually like to offer dipping sauces like Tzatziki Sauce or Roasted Garlic Aioli when I serve my grilled lamb.

How long will grilled lamb stay fresh?

In an airtight container in the refrigerator, grilled lamb will stay fresh for up to 3 days. When you’re ready to reheat it, I recommend simply using your stovetop! Heat a pan over medium high heat and let the meat heat through on both sides for just a few moments. Trust me, it’s much better than microwaving it, and the effort is minimal.
