Big Mac Smash Tacos

Taco Tuesday just got way more fun! Next time the kids beg for McDonald’s, blow their minds with these cheesy, Big Mac Smash Tacos instead. This recipe takes all of the elements you love about a Mickey D’s burger but smashes it all into a crispy tortilla instead of a bun. It’s fun, different, and always a hit with family and friends of all ages.

I also really love how quick and easy these tacos are to make. They come together in no time with simple ingredients and always hit the spot! Plus, they’re super easy to make and great to serve as a weeknight dinner with family or for a party. I like to set up a toppings bar and offer pickles, big mac sauce, onions and lettuce

Let’s take a quick moment to talk about what might just be my favorite part of this whole recipe – the big mac sauce! It’s creamy, tangy, and really makes these tacos sing. It’s what seals the deal on that classic big mac flavor we all know and love. Plus, it keeps well in the fridge for up to 2 weeks so you can absolutely make it ahead of time.

How to Make Big Mac Smash Tacos

This quick and easy McDonald’s inspired recipe is a breeze! For more in depth step by step instructions, scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of the page.

  1. Assemble the beef and tortillas. Divide the beef into 12 portions. Roll each portion into a ball. Place each ball of beef onto the center of a tortilla. Press the meat onto the tortilla and flatten it out to the edges. Season with a little salt and pepper (or burger seasoning) and repeat this process with all of the beef and tortillas.
  2. Cook the beef and tortillas. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add half of the oil and heat until simmering. Add as many of the tortillas as you can, beef side down, to the pan without overcrowding it. Cook without touching for 2-3 minutes or until the beef is golden brown. Flip and reduce heat to medium-low.
  3. Make it cheesy. Top the cooked patties with a slice of cheese and cover the skillet with a lid. Let the cheese melt for a minute or so.
  4. Enjoy! Remove from the pan and keep warm or serve right away with your favorite burger toppings. Extra big mac sauce for me, please!

Ingredient Notes

Take a quick look at these notes before you head to the grocery store! As always, you can find exact measurements listed in the recipe card at the bottom of the page.

  • Ground Beef – You can swap this with ground chicken or ground turkey if preferred.
  • Flour Tortillas – I prefer using the street taco size tortillas so they’re nice and small.
  • Olive Oil – Avocado oil also works just fine.
  • Cheese – Yellow American cheese gives these big mac tacos the copycat flavor we’re aiming for! However, cheddar would also be tasty if preferred.
  • Lettuce – Romaine or iceberg shredded lettuce are both just fine.
  • Pickles – I love slicing up some homemade refrigerator dill pickles whenever I can.
  • Onion – Red onions are my favorite to use! White onions are also great if you like them more.
  • Sesame Seeds – For even more flavor, toast these in a pan for a little bit until browned!
  • Big Mac Sauce – Check out my recipe for the very BEST copycat McDonald’s big mac sauce!
