This easy to make Slow Cooker Pear Butter is like fall in a jar, perfect on everything.

Happy Hump Day!  I have a crazy busy week and am so glad it’s almost over.  I’m prepping for a news segment tomorrow where we’ll talk about Halloween pre-gaming….something I like to host each year before we go out trick or treating. We’ll talk about that more later…AND I have to get new tires on Friday but really, I want to go to lunch with my friend Allie and do a little shopping. That’s way more fun than tires.  Don’t ya think?  AND I’ve been trying to get caught up on the new show This is Us.  Have you seen it?  I have, three times already, caught the first 20 minutes of the first episode and then my plans are foiled by a barking dog that sees creepy clowns….a five year old boy who’s afraid of going to bed suddenly….a 21 year old daughter who’s getting used to the working world.  Someday…I’ll be able to turn on a show and watch it start to finish without forgetting I was watching it in the first place due to interruption.  Or cooking something low and slow without interruption….like this Slow Cooker Pear Butter.

It doesn’t matter if you’re interrupted when you’re making this Slow Cooker Pear Butter because it’s about 5 minutes of hands on time.  That’s it.  Peel, slice, core…toss into the pot.  Sprinkle with some cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.  Lid it up, turn on high and go binge watch your favorite show…if you dare.  I used to love to get this started before I left for work in the morning because the aroma you’re greeted with when you get home is completely intoxicating.  It smells like fall moved into your house while you were slaving away in a cubicle….better than any Yankee candle, if you ask me.

This super easy Slow Cooker Pear Butter is great spread on your morning toast with a cup of coffee.  Or slathered on your pancakes, or spread on a crusty sourdough grilled cheese sandwich. It’s also a wonderful addition to your cheese platter at holiday gatherings…or pack it in a fancy jar, tie with some twine and gift it to your favorite hostess with a loaf of homemade bread. You can even sub out the Apple Butter in this easy bar recipe or these pulled pork sliders with stellar results.  It’s your call.

  6. Oh yum! I’ve made apple butter a couple of times before, but for whatever reason, I haven’t gotten around to trying pear butter before… love how this one uses the slow cooker for maximum flavour with minimum effort. That’s my kind of recipe!

  7. Can you freeze the pear butter for later once it’s been made?

  8. Can this be canned using a water bath? Thinking of using to put in Christmas gift baskets.

  12. My daughter made this recipe for a gift for her father at Christmas.
It was not good! Of course he didn’t tell her that.
After our pears came in I decided to give the recipe a try. You know, older and more experienced cook….so I thought.
I went by the recipe exactly.
It is not good… has a burnt taste and is watery.
I’m not sure if I messed it up or if the recipe is messed up.
I just hate that I wasted so many sweet pears.
Good luck to you guys and hopefully yours turns out good.

    • Hi Gail, I’m so sorry to hear this didn’t work out for you. I hate wasting food so I’m very disappointed you had an unpleasant result. I’ve made this recipe multiple times and I have never had that happen so it could be a few things…..the pears could have been overripe. That’s easy to tell so if they’re super soft, they’re going to cook down more quickly than a less ripe pear and that could cause the ingredients to take on a burned taste. OR, your spices were not mixed in and sat at the bottom of the slow cooker….the spices can burn which will completely ruin the recipe. Again, my apologies and I hope that doesn’t deter you from trying another recipe or giving this one another try.

  13. Wow we made this last night in the crockpot. Let it cook on low and even warm part of the time until tonight. It is so delicious. We did can it for friends. We made two large crock pots full. Yummmmmmm

  14. Wish canning directions were included more specifically. I may have overprocessed but better safe than sorry.

    • I’m sorry, I’m not a canning expert but I’ll try to add more specific directions for canning once I consult someone that knows the safety guidelines. I wouldn’t want to give you incorrect instructions and then have your pear butter spoil while it’s being stored.
