Easy Creamy Açaí Smoothie
Antioxidants ahoy! This creamy açaí smoothie is a healthy way to start your day, but even more important, it’s delicious and easy to make.

I’m not going to promise that this açaí smoothie will age you in reverse Benjamin Button style (although who knows what will happen if you rub it into your crow’s feet?!), but it WILL help you get your day off to a good start. I love making an Acai Bowl but sometimes I need to make something for the road and this Acai Smoothie is the first thing I make.
Açaí is nutrient-dense and antioxidant rich, but I also just love the way it tastes—tart and bright, with a little bit of earthiness in there that reminds me of a good dark chocolate. A mix of frozen berries add more antioxidants and flavor to the mix, then banana makes the smoothie creamy and sweet.
As with any smoothie recipe, you can customize this one to your heart’s content by switching up the fruits, liquids, sweetener, etc., but what you’ll find below is my go-to formula.

Ingredients for an Açaí Smoothie
Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll need for this recipe. For the full measurements, scroll down to the recipe card.
- Frozen Açaí – Here in the US, you can pretty much only get açaí in its frozen form, so don’t waste your time looking for it in the fresh produce section! We like the little pellets but you can buy pouches of the puree.
- Banana – Key to the rich, creamy texture. A riper banana will make your smoothie sweeter and give it more banana flavor. If you freeze bananas, this is the perfect place to use them.
- Frozen Mixed Berries – I love these blends for smoothies! If you have a preference for one berry over another, you can use a single variety if you like. I lean towards strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries because we always have them on hand.
- Plain Low Fat Greek Yogurt – Vanilla would also work, but I like plain because it doesn’t have any additional sugar. It’s also a bit creamier and adds a pleasant tanginess.
- Milk – Any kind you have in the fridge will work in this açaí smoothie. Sometimes I like to mix it up with coconut milk, oat milk or even a splash of kefir.
- Honey – Or your preferred sweetener such as agave or coconut sugar.
- Chia Seeds – Fiber boost! If you’re not a fan, hemp hearts or flax seed will boost your smoothie’s protein and omega-3 content.

Tips for Making the Perfect Açaí Smoothie
There’s not much to this recipe, but these smoothie making tips will help you nail it.
- Use frozen fruit. Even if you have fresh berries on hand, I recommend freezing them first. They’ll keep your smoothie thick and frosty without adding ice, which waters down the flavor.
- Add more liquid if needed. If your blender seems to be struggling, stop and stir the ingredients a bit. If it’s still on the struggle bus, add a splash more milk to help loosen things up.
- Pour in the liquid first. If you don’t have a high speed blender, it can help to add the milk first, followed by soft ingredients and then frozen ones.

Variations and Substitutions
Here are some ways to switch up this açaí smoothie recipe.
- Make it vegan. Swap the milk for your favorite plant milk, omit the yogurt or use a vegan variety, and swap the honey for maple syrup.
- Add some greens. A handful of spinach or kale will give your smoothie a boost of nutrients without affecting the taste.
- Boost the protein. Add a scoop of your favorite plain or vanilla protein powder for an extra dose of protein.
- Swap out the berries. Frozen peaches, mangos, or pineapple would also be delicious!
How to Store Leftovers
This açaí smoothie is best enjoyed right away; while you can refrigerate it, the texture will change and get thinner. If you do have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hours and stir it before serving. You can also freeze any extra smoothie in a popsicle mold!
