How do you make Sausage and Peppers?

Italian Sausage and Peppers are incredibly easy to make but this easy Crock Pot Sausage and Peppers recipe takes the easy to another level. Much like my Italian Sausage and Peppers in the oven, this recipe requires not much prep work except chopping up a few peppers and onions.

Here’s how to make Slow Cooker Sausage and Peppers:

  1. Layer the bottom of a slow cooker or crock pot with sliced bell peppers and onions.
  2. Top the vegetables with garlic, parsley, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
  3. Layer the sausages on top of the vegetables and drizzle with olive oil.
  4. Cover with the lid and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6-7 hours.
  5. Serve over the Parmesan Polenta or on a roll for Sausage and Pepper Sandwiches.

Can you put raw sausages in a slow cooker?

YES! You can totally put raw sausages in the slow cooker and because you’re putting them on the top of the vegetables they’ll roast just like they do in the oven. Still with that snappy exterior and juicy interior. Exactly how you want a cooked italian sausage to be.

Can you put frozen sausages in a slow cooker?

YES!  You can, also, put frozen sausages in a slow cooker and they’ll cook just the same way. However, you will need to cook them a little longer so adjust the cooking time accordingly.

  1. I’m with you on the Christmas overload too soon – let’s not forget about my favorite holiday! 🙂 This dinner just made it onto my meal plan – I cook for one, and this looks like the perfect meal prep for the week.

  2. Sausage and peppers is the best! It’s even better when it’s made in the slow cooker.

  3. This is total comfort food. Love that it’s over that creamy polenta too!

  4. That makes me sad that people are skipping Thanksgiving. It’s my favorite holiday! Those Christmas commercials can stay away and let the turkey commercials have their chance. 🙂

And this looks great! Love slow cooker meals.

  5. What a beautiful presentation!! Looks like a meal straight out of a restaurant.

  6. I just love this recipe and it is so happening in this house. Perfection!!!

I also always have the greatest intention and end up mailing everything way too late….

  7. i basically love every aspect of this dish: it has sausage, its in a slow cooker, and polenta. Can I come over and have some please?

  8. Love any meal in a slow cooker! Love the parmesan and basil polenta too!

  9. It’s hard to believe something this tasty looking is so easy to make in a crock pot. Love it!

  10. Instant polenta? Idk about all of that, but I trust you! I’ll try it!

  11. I’m trying so hard not to belt out Christmas carols. It’s a losing battle; Christmas is everywhere. Love this slow cooker meal!! Great weeknight dinner.

  12. I’m not a crockpot lover, but you are convincing me to dust mine off. This looks great!

  13. You rocked this out. I love sausage with peppers, but this polenta is freaking unreal. Very cool recipe.

  14. Christmas has been everywhere since July haha. It’s crazy! But back to this recipes, YUM! I love all of that over the polenta and it’s a double plus in my book since it’s from the slow cooker!

  15. question, how would you add greens to this recipe? do them separately, or incorporate them into the crock pot mix? and which greens would work best? kale? i love kale.
i’m all over the sausage & peppers, i use extra onions because i’m not much of a pepper fan. i don’t mind the pepper flavor but don’t actually eat them, my hubby loves them though so i cook with them. thanks for the reminder of doing them in the crock pot, that’s how i learned it originally many years ago from an Italian friend, it makes them so tender.
what i’m in love with is the polenta, i’ve had it at restaurants but never made it myself- i’m not one drop Italian. i’m not sure if i can make it, or if my family will approve. i’m going to make this soon, hopefully they’ll discover the wonders of polenta as a pasta alternative as i have. done right, with parm, it’s amazing!
thanks for any recommendations of adding greens.
and i agree, slow down Santa. or as my daughter says, for every Christmas tree decorated before Thanksgiving, an elf drowns a baby reindeer!

    • Thanks so much for checking out my blog! I was never a huge pepper fan either but I love them with the sausage because they loose that peppery flavor and become sweet and melty. For greens you could add spinach, but I would do it about 10 minutes before serving just so they have time to wilt and not disappear completely. Kale you could also do but maybe about 20-30 minutes before serving, again so they are just wilted but not complete mush. Your daughter is smart! I love her baby reindeer story…people need to calm down a bit. 🙂

  16. maybe it should be 4 hours on high and 6-7 hours on low?
