Brioche French Toast Casserole

It’s almost here, Christmas is lurking around the corner and my little guy is going absolutely nuts with joy….or sugar. It’s hard to determine the source of the energy but it’s so much fun getting to plan the day with him.

We host a holiday brunch every year for my family on Christmas morning and a breakfast casserole is always on the menu. Each year I try to come up with something new like last year’s Monte Cristo Casserole which is, still, a huge hit! So, for this year…I wanted to come up with something equally amazing with tons of flavor but a little less work.

This Brioche French Toast Casserole is loaded with nuts and dried fruit making it a hearty, comforting breakfast that is perfect for holidays or leisurely weekend breakfasts.

Ingredients You Will Need

The ingredients list is pretty short and we love to use this homemade brioche but a store bought brioche or other study bread will work just as well.

  • Brioche Bread or Challah, a buttery loaf packs the most flavor punch but use your favorite bread if you wish.
  • Eggs
  • Golden Raisins, you can use any raisin but I feel the golden raisins are a little less sweet.
  • Chopped Dates. You can replace the dates with your favorite dried fruit like apricots or mango.
  • Vanilla
  • Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Clove
  • Chopped Walnuts and Pecans, if you’re not a nut fan you can skip them or use your favorite.

  2. Whisk the eggs, half and half, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.
  3. Toss the brioche together with the nuts and fruit.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the brioche and toss to coat.
  5. Arrange in a baking dish and bake.

  7. French Toast Casserole is very much like bread pudding so we may have enjoyed this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert, too.

That looks and sounds so delicious. I have always been a huge fan of Aldi’s. Although I am in Georgia I have a few Aldi’s located near which I love. My staple products include their almond milk, their steak seasoning and of course all of the fruits and veggies!

We just got an Aldi near where I live (San Diego) and i LOVE it! It reminds me of shopping in Europe, especially with the chocolates. Mostly I love how affordable it is! Even though it’s a little out of the way, it’s totally my new go to grocery store.

Oh we just had our first Aldi open here just before Thanksgiving! I was so excited! For Thanksgiving we tried the Gluten free stuffing and gluten free french fried onions for the green bean casserole. Oh…it was sooo good! I have celiac disease, but the rest of the family gets to eat normal. I was so excited to have some stuffing and green bean casserole just for me! So glad they carry gluten free options!

    1. Kellie says:

You can make this one the night before, just cover and refrigerate. Allow to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking.

  8. Jen says:

I loooooove their GF bread! It’s the closest to real bread I’ve gotten!

I love Aldi so much! My favorites are the Fit & Active 45 calorie bread and Fit & Active String Cheese. I swear these helped me so much losing weight and the prices for them are phenomenal compared to other brands. But there are so, so, so many other products that I love: Kirkwood stuffed chicken breasts, hummus, the single serve dark roast coffee, all of their great holiday goodies, wonderful cheap produce, and the list just goes on and on! I have a lot of Aldi feels, lol!! Thank you for the chance!

  10. David says:

In my area Aldi has the cheapest milk and bread in town. I also like going in to find unadvertised deals, likely because they have overstock. Two times in the last month they had eggs for $.29. I felt like I was stealing them!!
