Berry Beet Smoothie
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I don’t know about you but I’m welcoming the 2020 with open arms….purely because of the overconsumption of cookies and way too many sweets. I’m ready to usher in the new year with a clean slate and a cleaner eating plan. Starting with this Berry Beet Smoothie. It’s fast, easy and sooooo good!
We’ve been big juice and smoothie fans here the past year mixing up everything from Strawberry Cheesecake Smoothies to a power packed Green Juice and beets have been our go-to for an energizing meal that’s simple and fast.
Ingredients for a Beet Smoothie
This easy Beet Smoothie is made with just a few ingredients. Frozen berries, fresh beets, ginger, honey, yogurt and milk (almond milk or coconut milk work well, too!). You can add other ingredients like pineapple, banana (for ultra creaminess), avocado, apple or pears to mix things up, there are really no rules here.
If you want to spice up your Beet Smoothie, throw in some of the beet greens, too! They have a peppery bite and add a ton of vitamins to your smoothie in addition to what it already contains.
Health Benefits of Beets
Beets are a great source of iron and folate. They also contain nitrates, betaine, magnesium and other healthy antioxidants. More recent health claims suggest beetroot can help lower blood pressure, boost exercise performance and prevent dementia.
Beetroot contains a group of phytonutrients that support detoxification through an important phase 2 detox step in your liver. Allowing your liver to to detoxify chemicals and toxins more effectively, your body is better able to balance hormones, cholesterol and energy levels naturally.
Beets are now becoming known as a superfood that maintains heart health and blood pressure, supports brain function, aids digestion, and reduces inflammation.
This easy Beet Smoothie recipe is one of the BEST ways to recover from a hangover after a night of too much fun.
How To Make It
Making a smoothie is quick and easy to do. You’ll spend the most time peeling and cutting up your beets.
- Place the berries, beets, honey, ginger, yogurt and milk in a blender.
- Puree until smooth adding more milk until the desired consistency. (I like my smoothie extra thick but you may want it to be smoother.)
- Pour into a glass and top with berries and granola, if desired.
That’s it! So fast and simple. If you want to prep ahead, you can make a big batch of your Beet Smoothie and freeze in ice cube trays. When you’re in need of a quick smoothie fix, simply throw a few of the smoothie cubes into a blender and blend away until smooth adding more milk, if necessary.
You can also turn this Beet Smoothie into a quick smoothie bowl by topping with your favorite toppings like coconut flakes, fresh berries, sliced bananas and granola.
How To Prepare Beets
I like to use raw beets for this smoothie recipe but you can make them with roasted beets, too. I usually prep ahead a bunch of beets at the beginning of the week using this roasted beet recipe or I pop them in the Instant Pot.
They’re fantastic in salads or as a quick side dish.
You can also use them raw in salads by grating them on a box grater into a type of beet slaw or give them a whirl on your spiralizer to make beet noodles!
Because we’re using frozen fruit and raw beets in this beet smoothie recipe you’ll need a powerful smoothie blender. We have two that I love but I grab this one most of the time because it’s a real powerhouse. For a more affordable option, we also have this one and use it regularly.
Believe me when I say, you’ll be whipping this one up regularly because it’s surprisingly tasty AND isn’t it just the most beautiful color????
If you love this smoothie recipe, you’ll also love this easy Strawberry Banana Smoothie….it’s one of my favorite. And this Spinach Kiwi Pineapple Smoothie is equally tasty and ultra creamy because of the smooth avocado.
Want to prep ahead, these easy Freezer Smoothie Packs are super convenient to have on hand and easy to make. Plus, there easily customizable to please everyone’s picky palate in the entire house.
