My Strawberry Banana Smoothie is a 2 minute, 2 serving blend of frozen strawberries, ripe banana, yogurt, milk, touch of honey and vanilla. Add everything to the blender and puree until creamy, smooth and irresistible. No ice needed for that thick, frosty texture.

Why I Make This Every Day

I give you my most favorite Strawberry Banana Smoothie recipe ever made.

I like simple smoothie recipes I can whip up in minutes, This easy Strawberry Banana Smoothie is made with just a few ingredients that I always have in the house. It’s a just throw everything in the blender and whirr away for about a minute until it’s all smooth and creamy. I don’t like to use ice in my smoothies because they get watered down and really, ice adds nothing, no flavor, no national value, nothing. So, trust me when I say, you won’t need it in this recipe.

What is a Strawberry Banana Smoothie good for?

I love to make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie with yogurt in the morning for a quick, easy and healthy breakfast. It’s fantastic to make before leaving for work in the morning and enjoying during your morning commute, this was a go-to on-the-go breakfast when I worked outside the home.

In addition to a breakfast smoothie, this Strawberry Banana Smoothie recipe is also wonderful as a post workout snack. You can even throw everything into the blender before you leave for the gym, store it in the fridge and then blend it when you get home so it’s cool and smooth. A great way to restore your energy, feed your muscles and cool off!

Ingredient Notes

  • Frozen strawberries: Give that thick, frosty body, no ice to water things down.
  • Ripe banana: Natural sweetness and creaminess (freckled and spotty give the best flavor).
  • Greek yogurt: Adds protein and a little tang for balance.
  • Milk (dairy or plant): Gets everything moving; start with ½ cup and add to thin the consistency.
  • Honey or maple: Sweeten to taste, often optional if your banana’s very ripe.
  • Vanilla: Pure vanilla extract rounds out the berry-banana vibe.

Full ingredient list is provided in the recipe card below.

How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie

  1. Add milk to the blender, then strawberries, banana, yogurt, honey, and vanilla.
  2. Blend until completely smooth, 45-90 seconds, scraping down once if needed.

Texture tips: For thicker consistency, add more frozen strawberries or banana. For thinner smoothies, blend in 1-2 tablespoons of milk at a time.

You can serve it with whole-grain muffins, egg bitesovernight oats, or a fresh fruit cocktail for a make-ahead breakfast.

Smoothie Variations & Dietary Swaps

  • Dairy-Free: use almond, oat, or coconut milk; swap in coconut or almond-milk yogurt, or skip yogurt.
  • Protein Boost: add 1 scoop vanilla protein powder or 2 tablespoons of peanut butter or almond butter.
  • Healthy Fats and Fiber: 1-2 teaspoons chia seeds or ground flax; ½ avocado for extra creaminess.
  • Mixed Berry: replace ½ cup strawberries with blueberries or raspberries.
  • Citrus Twist: use orange juice instead of milk and skip the sweetener.
  • Green Smoothie: add a packed cup of baby spinach (color changes, flavor stays mild).

Storage

Refrigerate leftover smoothie up to 1 day; natural separation may occur, shake or re-blend before serving.

For meal prep, portion ingredients into freezer packs (fruit + banana + yogurt) and blend with milk when ready.

Are Strawberry Banana Smoothies healthy?

A smoothie is only as healthy as the ingredients you’re adding and since we’re not tossing donuts into the blender (now THERE’s an idea!), this easy Strawberry Banana Smoothie recipe is pretty healthy. I like to use a low fat greek yogurt, low fat milk and just a touch of honey to keep sugar low, as well as, calories in check.

A splash of vanilla adds a little sweetness and a pop of flavor making this easy smoothie recipe taste like dessert. You can add chia seeds to the smoothie to bulk it up a bit, skip the honey if your bananas are really on the ripe side (really ripe bananas are much sweeter than yellow bananas.)

This simple smoothie recipe is just like the one they serve at Starbucks, also, similar to the McDonald’s Strawberry Banana Smoothie I had not too long ago but my homemade smoothie is much healthier and lighter on calories!

Can strawberry banana smoothies be made without yogurt?

You can definitely skip the yogurt altogether but your smoothie will be less creamy without it. If you still want the richness yogurt provides you can substitute with cottage cheese or ricotta cheese.

Blender Notes: Any standard or high-power blender works. Start on low to break up the frozen fruit, then blend on high until perfectly smooth.

Just a few ingredients and about 2 minutes, that’s all you need to make these easy Strawberry Banana Smoothies from scratch!

Equipment

  • 1 blender

Ingredients

  • 2 bananas, peeled and chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup plain greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup low fat milk
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients in the blender and place the lid on the pitcher.
  • Blend all the ingredients until smooth, approximately 1-2 minutes.
  • Pour into two 8 ounce glasses and enjoy.

Notes

Strawberry Banana Smoothies are best served soon after making them. If making in advance, store in an airtight container, refrigerated, until ready to serve.
Premade smoothies will be less thick than smoothies made right before serving because the blender incorporates some air that will be lost while the smoothie rests.

Can I use fresh fruit instead of frozen?

Yes. Use fresh berries and add a few ice cubes only if needed. Frozen fruit delivers a thicker, frothier texture.

How do I make it thicker or thinner?

Thicker: more frozen fruit or a few ice cubes. Thinner: splash in milk 1-2 Tbsp at a time and re-blend.
